it's finally someone from magi! honestly this is such a comfort series for me, I've read the manga 3 times by now and I still cry as much as the first time

prompt: you seriously underestimated how much someone could change in the span of two years, especially if it's a magi we're talking about.

it takes place in the manga, after the three years time skip, so beware if you haven't read that yet!

warning: mention of death!

It seemed that, no matter what happened, you would always find your eyes wandering, looking at the vast plains of the Kou Empire as you subconsciously searched for him.

It had been so long since you've last seen Aladdin, and to make matters worse, it hadn't even been a proper goodbye: he had vanished, alongside Morgiana and Hakuryuu, without muttering a single word, leaving you with a heavy heart and aching feelings. Things had just been improving, with the war that had finally ended and the world changing for the better, until one day, you found the castle in Rakushou emptied of your friends, with only princess Kougyoku remaining.
And so, with such sadness flowing through body, you had tried to pick yourself up, to cast aside what should have been just another tragedy happening in your life.
It's safe to say that it did not go as planned, and while you tried to convince yourself otherwise, it was pretty obvious that you were devastated by such events; after all, you all had just suffered the loss of two companions, one of them being your childhood friend Alibaba.

Aladdin had been a ray of hope for you, someone who, although just as upset for your friend's death, had been able to move on (at least partly), and to keep learning and improving; he had truly inspired everyone, and yet, while he had so many people looking up to him, he had always looked on your direction first.
He always preached how precious you were for him, how important and fundamental you were in his life, and how you completed it; he would say that with the brightest smile, one of his hands usually interlacing with yours as he dragged you somewhere else, whether it was simply the market or an exotic place that only a magician of his calibre could find.
You had truly thought for a while that you two were going to become more than friends, but alas, after falling in love so hardly for him, he left you alone, weeping and unable to glue your heart back together.

"Oh dear, are you still thinking about that boy?" You turned around, casting aside those thoughts as you looked at the newly-crowned empress, Ren Kougyoku; for the past year, you had been helping her at the castle with trivial tasks, in exchange for a roof to sleep under.

"Why are you so surprised your Majesty? I'm sure you know how deeply my affection runs for him by now." The redhead just sighed, approaching you as she decided to sit beside you; she had been extremely worried for you, and while she wanted to be of help she knew that telling you the magi's location would just jeopardize his whole plan, the reason why he left that place without you.

She was aware of how his intentions only came from a good place, and yet, everytime she saw the defeated look on your face she wanted nothing more but to share their secret with you; besides, it had been a few weeks since she'd last heard of him, so she wasn't even sure of the accuracy of the information.

"Don't worry, I'm sure he's still alive somewhere. He'll come back some day and you'll be able to see him again, so do not stress like that my dear." You smiled faintly, your head resting on her shoulder as you both watched the rain pouring down, mirroring your mood as you thought of better times.

Once again, you were woken up by the loud noises coming from outside.
It had become the norm by now, with Alibaba surprising you all as he came back from what you thought was his death; since then, he had been helping the Empress with financial and political matters, traveling around the world as he tried to do as much propaganda as possible, just to put the Kou Empire on a good light.
After a tear-jerking reunion, he had offered you to join him in his adventures, and yet, you had refused, out of fear that you'd miss the arrival of Aladdin; sure, it might have sounded silly, but your dear friend understood and left you here, as you kept praying for a miracle.

"As I said before, you insolent boy, you better make it up to her, or I won't let you see her! She's endured such loneliness for you!" It was easy to understand that the person Kougyoku meant was you, and yet, you were unaware of who she could be talking to.

"Eh?! What do you mean you won't let me see her?! You're so cruel Kougyoku!" Your eyes widened, as your hands gripped the covers tightly; you didn't want to hang on false hopes, but that voice sounded so similar, it was one you knew you would never forget, not even in a million years.
As you scrambled out of bed, you heard knocking on your door; you told them to wait a second, stuttering as you changed yourself into something more decent.
As you were about to reach for the door, it suddendly sprung open, a tall figure standing right behind it.

"Glad to see you haven't changed (Y/n)! I was worried you might not want to talk to me." You stayed silent as you stared at him, the idea of him finally being in front of you still processing in your mind. And yet, as you look at his long blue braid, and at the face that had once been one of a child, reality came crashing down. He was there, and it was not a dream.

"You... you idiot!" You wailed as you threw yourself at him, your arms around his torso as you placed you face on the nape of his neck, trying desperately to calm yourself down.

"You were othe one who was worried? Do you know how bad it feels to be left alone by your best friends for two whole years?" He stayed silent, as he hugged you a little tighter; truth to be told, he was scared you might have rejected him, making him pay for the pain you went through.
You didn't know why he decided to go without you, and even if he did explain his reason, which was for protecting you from danger, he knew you would just lecture him about how you could very well take care of yourself. He knew that, obviously, and yet he could not find the strength to subject you to such hardship, to risk your life getting taken by Arba; you were just too precious to him.

"I'm sorry, I did that because I thought it was the best route. We didn't have time and I didn't want to bring you into my own problems."

He kissed the crown of your head, as you gently swayed, your bodies close to each other as you bashed into the relaxing atmosphere. You had missed him dearly, and yet, as you looked at his face, you felt the anger dissipating, giving space to the love for him that begged to be shown.

"Just... don't go around vanishing ever again. You scared me a lot." He hummed as he leaned in, to place a gentle kiss on your temple. It wasn't anything exaggerated, but it still managed to make space for the butterflies in your stomach.

You were sure that boy was going to be the death of you one day.

I'm sorry, this one is literally so similar to the previous bam oneshot...
but!!! I honestly love Aladdin and I've been searching for something like that on the internet, but there is so little content on magi ugh
also, the reason why kou's oneshots are so short is because he's the first one I've written about so yeah
