angst angst angst for this beautiful bastard!!

It didn't come as a surprise, when you first learned that the only thing Hoaqin cared about, was slaughter and the souls to eat after one.
He had become pretty simple for you to understand, especially after so many years of looking after him; so when you heard that he had been revived, you had no doubt in mind he wouldn't even spare a glance for you.
At the time, you had been useful to him, enough so he wouldn't leave you; and yet, as things were now, he was full of powerful allies, some that rivaled and could very well beat you- even though you were supposed to be one of the strongest slayers FUG had to offer.

-

What did come as a surprise, was the slayer nominee Jue Viole Grace coming to ask for your help- from what you had understood, he wanted to rescue his master, Jinsung Ha, and he was sure that your assistance would be essential;  that was at least what people had told him, he said, a bit of hesitance hiding behind that calm and collected figure.

You remember his team being a very peculiar one, made of members from both the Ten Great Families and and FUG (you were also reminded that three of your fellow slayers had already agreed to help them with their quest)- and so, curious to see how things would turn out, you had accepted his request; what you did not expect was, to find your ex lover thrown in the mix with all of you.

"So he convinced you huh? I gotta hand it to him, I can barely remember one time someone was interesting enough to work with you, my dear (Y/n)."

You sighed, as you prepared yourself from what seemed an inevitable conversation with the one person you wanted to stay away from.
It was too painful, to look at him and remember a time when you still felt loved, like you truly mattered something for the white haired slayer in front of you; alas, you had found out the truth soon enough, one that would have probably forever haunted your dreams.
You couldn't forget how he had scoffed at you, glaring at your desperate tears as he proclaimed that you should have known better, that you should not have put so much faith in your relationship; it was only work-related after all, a limited period of time that would end as soon as he was strong enough not to depend on you any more. And you had been so foolish to think that maybe, he had changed his mindset, that maybe he wanted you back- oh, how naive you were.

-

You only smiled fondly, as you watched your beautiful lover come through the doors of your greenhouse; he had just come back from a mission that took a couple of weeks, one which you couldn't be part of, so saying that you had missed him was an understatement.

"Hello Hoaqin, how did it go?" He didn't bother giving a real answer, that signature smirk of his proof enough that he had been victorious; you never doubted that, of course, but you were glad to see him so ecstatic- he rarely truly showed his emotions, so you found pride in being one of the selected few to have that privilege.

"No need to worry woman- all that matter is that I'm stronger that before right? So I can keep climbing the tower by your side."

You smiled, as he kissed you with such passion; you were certain he loved you just as much as you did, and you never once minded all the red flags and the toxic behavior he had towards you- if only you had been smarter.

-

"Why that was correct ages ago, what makes you think I am still the person you once knew?" He simply laughed, walking towards you as he probably thought of a way to shut you up- with the cruelest words, most likely.

"Because you've always been my cute little puppet, haven't you? Never disobeying, always at my beck and call." Here it was, what you were expecting.
He never cared about anyone's feelings, he preferred to just kill and devour their souls- and yet, for someone so crude, he was one of the smartest people you had ever met; he was able to put on a facade and lure you in, one of the first slayers ever chosen, and convince you to work with him (or, as he'd put it, for him).

He didn't have any restraints, and his goal was to become the strongest- you didn't belong in the smallest part of his plans, not anymore at least; and luckily, now that you had opened your eyes, you didn't mind that as much.
The only thing left was an aching heart and the feeling of numbness that flowed through your body.

"I must ask you to step away from me White- the only reason I am here now is because I am interested in helping Jue Viole Grace. If you try to block my way, then I shall eliminate you, is that clear?"

He stayed silent, so you took the chance to add one more thing, before leaving him.

"I truly did love you once, Hoaqin; and it would have stayed that way, if only you played your little game better. So I must thank you, for showing me your true colors even when I was so blind."

You walked past him, concealing a smirk as you watched his expression turn confused for a couple of seconds- it didn't last long, but that was enough for you.

You had finally started to move on, and you weren't going to let him ruin everything again.

I wanted to write a bit of fluff at first, but as much as I really like his character, I really can't see him in healthy relationship-
