The family room was less busy than it usually was. Probably because there were new sick patients in there, but I moved Akira and the two other women into the girls' room, so there were only like three new men. I checked on everyone like I normally did, a bit disappointed that I didn't get more paperwork done, but happy that Juuzou and I had talked a bit more about ourselves. I had come to the realization that I didn't really need to know everything about Juuzou's past to lov- I mean like him. Just like how I didn't enjoy talking about Aaron, Juuzou probably didn't enjoy talking about his past, so there really wasn't anything more to say on those matters.

"Er, (y/n)? This hip is just about killing me, mind rubbing some of your magic oil on it?"

I looked over to the man speaking, who had a burn right above his hip and a not pleasant look on his face. I began to walk over to him, taking the soothing cream out of one of my pockets. "If you mean numbing ointment, then yes. Although magic oil would be very helpful these days." I said, which earned chuckles from some of the men.

I treated the burn and put a big patch over it, accepting the thanks from the man and finally heading to the critical condition unit downstairs. Angela was positioned down there, mostly because I knew her name, but also she was probably my favorite medic to converse with. Angela as per usual was worrying about the patients in comas, but I told her that fate decided when and if they were to wake up, and she agreed.

Then, as if on cue, another man began waking up. This would be good, however his body was under too much stress and his vitals began skyrocketing all over the place. "He's too unstable. Cart the defibrillator over here." I instructed to Angela, who did as she was told quickly.

We ended up saving the man, but he still wasn't stable at all and would need constant attention.

"Angela, are you supposed to go home tonight?"

"... Yes I think so, but if you need me, I can stay here and watch over him."

"How long has it been since you went home and took care of your family?"

    "Um, around five days now."

"Alright, I want you to go home and take care of them and let them know you're okay. I'll watch over him tonight and tomorrow and you stay home."

"Oh, (y/n) that's very kind of you, but-"

"No buts! Everyone else gets a one day break every three days, but I've selfishly made you work for five days because I value your skills and personality. Go home and get rest."

Angela nodded and left, happy that she was able to return to her home. I sighed and looked back to the man, silently cursing him for not being more healthy. If I were lazy enough, I would've just made another medic watch over the men, but I didn't trust any of my other colleagues to not kill everyone in the critical condition room, so I decided I would just have to manage by myself. Its not like it was a difficult task, I mean, I just had to sleep on a cot instead of my bed and wake up every three hours to check on everyone.

Wait, that sounds horrible! Damn, I really put Angela through the ringer with this room, huh.

I sat and chatted with each awake man in the room, trying to get to know them as well as I knew the family room boys so that I would enjoy myself a bit more while spending so much time there. When it got late enough, I sent a medic to watch over them for around an hour while I made my final rounds for the night. I sped through checking the girls room and the family room one more time before heading to my room and opening the door quietly, as to not wake Juuzou who might've been asleep.

I closed the door and smiled tiredly when I saw Juuzou reading one of the books I had given him for if he got bored. He looked up from his reading and smiled back at me, closing the book and setting it on the nightstand next to the bed. I walked over to the desk and made myself coffee with the espresso machine I had smuggled from the kitchen, knowing I would probably need the caffeine for the night ahead of me. I walked to the bed and looked at the book Juuzou was reading.

Me Before You

"Me Before You, huh? I liked the romance, but didn't like the ending very much. How far into it are you?"

Juuzou looked at the book before responding. "She's in the maze right now having what I think is a panic attack. Is Will going to come and get her? What happened to her anyways?"

I looked to the book and started to trace the letters on the cover. "She was taken advantage of by those boys when she was drunk, didn't you read that bit?"

He nodded. "Yes, but what does that mean?"

I sucked in a breath, clearing my throat and shrugging nervously. "My guess is that she was sexually assaulted, but I can't remember if the book clarifies it or not."

Juuzou looked at my clearly uncomfortable stance. "(Y/n), were you taken advantage of when you were wit-"

"I forgot to tell you that I can't sleep in here tonight. I have to be downstairs with the critical condition men. One of my medics needed some rest so I'm taking over for her. I- I mean it's only for today and tomorrow, she won't be gone for forever I mean- One of the guys is pretty unstable and needs constant attention. That's- that's why I'm making coffee. I need the um- the caffeine and stuff."

I spat the words out fast, still staring at the book before taking another fast breath in and heading to the desk, which now held my full cup of coffee.

Good job (y/n). That went swimmingly. I mean, why would he even ask that anyways? I know he doesn't have the best social cues, but shouldn't he know I don't want to talk about that? Especially so casually?

"(Y/n)-chan, you ramble when your nervous. Have you ever noticed that?"

I stared at my mug, running my finger along the rim of it. "...No, I haven't." I said, turning to face Juuzou and taking a sip out of the coffee simply so I didn't have to make eye contact with him.

"Well, do you want me to keep you company down there? You're staying down there all night, right?" Juuzou asked, slightly tilting his head to one side.

I nodded and walked back to the bed, setting my cup next to the book and hopping up to sit on the edge of the bed next to where Juuzou was laying. "Yeah, but I won't be awake the whole time, I just have to get up every three hours or so to check on my new patient's vitals. Plus you need to sleep and get rest so that you'll heal faster. Sorry love, I wish I didn't have to go."

Juuzou smiled, ignoring most of my words and focusing on something different. "(Y/n)-chan, I like it when you call me love. You should do it more often."

Did I call him love? It must've just slipped out. Whoops?

I chuckled. "Whatever you say, Mr. Suzuya~" I said in a low voice, leaning over and kissing Juuzou's lips.

I looked at the clock. "Ah shit, I only have two minutes before I need to be back downstairs. Goodnight Juuzou, sleep well. I'm right downstairs if you need anything, alright?"

Juuzou whined as I grabbed my coffee once more and turned off the light, closing the door softly and heading downstairs.

After telling the medic he was free to go, I half heartedly checked on everyone to make sure the medic didn't screw anything up before taking a seat on one of the big arm chairs that used to occupy the living room, curling up into a ball in it and sipping my coffee while watching all of the men's chests raise up and down. I wished that I could've been the one sleeping and flipped the unstable man off, just to get some anger out.

Only one more night of this and then you can sleep with Juuzou again, (y/n).
