Prologue

"Bye mommy!" Jungkook says before turning his attention back to the screen. Jungkook's older brother sighs as soon as their mom leaves as he sinks back down on the sofa once more. He turns his head to the screen before observing his younger brother who was absolutely engrossed by the program.

He shook his head. "Why do you like this show so much it's so lame." Junghyun says as he puts his game on the table now focused on the last few scenes of the show.

"It's not lame!" Jungkook defends. "Dino-Man is awesome!" He says excitedly seeing his hero break out of the cage.

"Dude has scales and wears a stupid mask. Oooh so cool." The older mocks.

"That's cause he has to hide his secret identity hyung. Otherwise, the bad guys would try to hurt him when he's not ready."

"Okay, whatever." Junghyun rolls his eyes now watching the show with his brother. Something soon starts to bother him. He was getting this really bad feeling in his stomach, but decided to brush it off. It was probably the kimchi that's been leftover for awhile that he decided to eat earlier.

Soon Dino-Man was finally able to save the princess and defeat the bad guy which caused Jungkook to burst out with happiness. 

"Yay! He did it! I knew he would." 

"Of course he did. If he didn't it would've made him an even bigger loser." Junghyun expresses.

Jungkook's smile never left his face as he saw the princess kiss the superhero. "I wanna be just like Dino-Man when I'm older."

"You wanna be kissed by some girls. Woah never thought you were growing up that fast little bro."

Jungkook quickly shakes his head feeling extremely flustered. "Of course not!"

His brother raises an eyebrow, waiting for him to continue on.

"I just want to help." He says turning back to hug his dinosaur again.

"Ahh so you want to help girls out. Okay, I see your angle Kook."

"No. I want to help everyone."

"Whatever you say." Junghyun smirks.

"Hyung I'm seven. Don't be weird." Jungkook says giving his older brother a stern look.

"You'll understand when you get older then. Now okay, off you go to bed you dork." He says before grabbing the remote from Jungkook's hand.

"But–"

"No 'buts'. You know what mom said now go upstairs." His brother points.

Jungkook frowns, but with a huff, he reluctantly takes his stuffed dino and marches his way upstairs and into his room.

Jungkook jumps into his bed, pulling his comforter up as he stares at the little glow in the dark stars on his ceiling. He tried to close his eyes to gently fall asleep.

Key word was 'tried' as Jungkook immediately sits up not feeling tired at all.

"I can't sleep." He announced to no one in particular as he wanders into his nightstand drawer to pull out his old baby monitor.

Up until a certain point, his parents kept this monitor, very protective of the young boy. They eventually didn't need it since Jungkook was older and smart enough to call his parents if he needed help.

Even though Jungkook didn't need it anymore, he still kept it for his own little shenanigans. He rewired everything so on nights like this he could hide in his closet and listen in on the TV while no one knew.

He knew he should listen to his mom and go to sleep but he couldn't help himself. So he quickly got out of his bed, taking his dino and got in his bedroom closet. 

"Okay now let's see." He whispers as he turns the monitor on and tries to amplify the sound to his liking. He knew he was successful when he heard his brother shout.

"Yes, get em Dino-Man!"

Jungkook smirks to himself knowing that he can call his older brother out for making fun of him for liking the show when he was just as guilty. 

"Not so much of a dumb show now is it hyung."

He kept listening to the show and his brother's little commentary here and there until a sudden knock came to the door.

"Aww come on. It was just about to get to the good part." He heard his brother groan as he got up from his spot to open the door.

"Why are they back so early, it's barely been like half an hour."

Jungkook closely listens in, scared that he might get caught by his mom for not going to sleep since he was always bad at faking it around his mom. His thoughts along with his heart came to an abrupt stop when he finally listened to what happened next.

He heard a click. 

"Hey! Woah what are you doing? Who are you?" He heard his brother's panicked and shaky voice.

A sudden terror grew in Jungkook but he still wanted to believe that nothing was wrong. That's when he heard a voice he didn't know.

"Don't worry about it, you won't be alive either way." And with that loud popping sounds exploded through the device and Jungkook's heart completely fell to his stomach.

"Check upstairs," the voice said through the monitor. "I heard they got another kid." He soon heard footsteps from the stairs coming into his bedroom. He stayed quiet in his closet, trying to surround himself with his small blanket to hide himself even more and provide some comfort. 

He heard a knock before the door busted open. Jungkook peeped through the little blinds of his closet to see a masked man with a small gun in hand looking around his room.

"Ugh there's no one here." The masked man said frustrated.

"Then get out who cares," he heard another unknown voice say. "Heard the kid was a little child, even if he managed to escape, not like he'll do anything."

Soon the masked man left. Jungkook waited until he heard they were completely gone. He was absolutely terrified, but one thought remained. 

His hyung. Is he okay?

He tiptoed his way downstairs to see the horror before his eyes. His own brother lying face up with his eyes bloodshot open and drowning in a pool of his own blood. 

Jungkook wanted to scream but he was too scared. So he quickly went down to grab their home phone, going outside hoping any of his neighbors would help.

He dialled the phone to call his mom, only to hear a cell phone ring from the driveway.

He turned around and stood paralyzed again to see both his parents in the same state as his brother. Shot, surrounded by a pool of their own blood.

Had Jungkook gone to bed, he probably would've been dead like the rest of his family.

There are some things that will always make sense.

But sometimes there are some that don't make sense.

Jungkook realized that not listening to his mother actually saved his life.
