Chapter 21

"You're lying."

"Y/n–"

"Tell me you're lying!" You scream at Jungkook as you hold onto the files with shaky hands, never thinking you would fear the man in front of you. You had to take a couple of extra breaths, feeling the air knock out of your lungs as you let it out.

You shake your head.

This is ridiculous. No way is this happening. This is just all a dream. You thought.

You pinch yourself, squinting your eyes in the pain as Jungkook stared at you.

Okay, maybe it wasn't a dream. But there has to be a logical reason for this.

You tried to calm yourself down. You knew you really couldn't, but somehow you had to muster up the courage to look at Jungkook in the eyes.

"Please Jungkook tell me this isn't what I think it is."

Jungkook looks down on his fingers. You could see the deep ocean of regret and sorrow in his eyes and wanted to give him comfort, but you had to hold your ground. He stood not saying anything.

You almost laugh hysterically. "It all makes sense now. Why you transferred from such a prestigious university to come to ours. Why you actually agreed to the whole stupid blind date thing Jimin set up. Why you tried to help me get my crush only to have me fall for you instead. Why you ever dated me." Your words got more aggressive with each sentence that came out of your mouth. You clenched your fists, still holding the file in hand. "All of this was just part of your sick plan." You let out, more tears coming out of you.

You dropped the files. "Well. What are you waiting for then? If you want to do it then just do it. Get your revenge." You said, letting your arms hang to the side.

He finally looked up at you and in a soft voice he says, "I could never hurt you Y/n. Never."

The sincerity in his eyes looked so real that you almost would've believed him.

You scoffed. "Right. I bet that's another one of your many lies. After all since when has Jeon Jungkook ever not have a secret."

"That's not fair. You know the truth Y/n. You know me!"

"Do I?" You yell back. "Cause right now, I'm looking at a complete stranger." You were finally losing it. You were finally reaching your breaking point and you didn't know if you could handle being here anymore.

Jungkook tried to step forward and call out to you, but you just couldn't. So you did what you could.

You turned around, quickly wiping the tears in your eyes before running off. Leaving Jungkook alone with his thoughts.

You finally made it to your apartment, slamming the door shut. You stood in front of it, panting as you haven't ran like that in so long.

You finally let go of the door handle, stepping back with your eyes on the door. You continued staring at the door until you felt your body push against a firm surface with hands gripping your shoulders.

"Woah babe. What's gotten into you? Why are you shaking?" Jimin asks and even though you couldn't see him, you could tell that he was worried.

Within that moment, you thought about everything. You thought about the look in Jungkook's eyes as you found the file. You thought about the words that came out of his mouth that shook you to your core. And you thought about the way your best friend held you close now with clear concern radiating from the warmth of his arms. And in that moment you couldn't be strong any longer and you bursted out crying.
