"This is public property ma'am."
"But no one knows about it," Eun-Bi threw her bag on the grass and sat down cross-legged.
"This is my haven, so move along." She took out a book from her bag and rummaged through the pages. But Yeonjun wasn't just going to get up and leave.
"And what makes you think I'll listen to you?" he scoffed.
"Uh, I don't know, maybe that I'm the school president," she said with a tone of exasperation.
"Nuh-uh, this is a first-come, first-serve scenario," he took out his phone from his pocket, "Not only am I going to stay, but I'm also gonna do what I want to." And blasted rock n' roll on it, scaring the living daylights out of Eun-Bi.
"What the hell, man! Decrease the volume!" She cupped her ears as she screamed on top of her lungs but under the heavy music, Yeonjun could hear nothing.
Eun-Bi stood up, her hands still on her ears, and ran towards him as she tried to snatch the device from him. Yeonjun extended his arm upwards and flexed on his towering height as Eun-Bi couldn't reach his hand even after raising her heels.
He's a skyscraper.
Frustrated, she put her foot behind his calf and yanked it forward, making him lose balance and fall. Instantly, she bent over him and snatched his phone from his hand. With a victor's joy, she turned off the audio file.
"Why you little-" he pushed her off but before he could catch her, she jolted off.
"You're gonna pay for this!" they both ran around an old oak tree, Yeonjun trying to catch the remarkably fast runner. As he ran after her, he caught a glimpse of her books.
"AHA!" he thought.
He ran to her backpack and grabbed her notes.
"You give me my phone back or I do mitosis on this book!" he said as he clutched the book in his hands, threatening to tear it in half.
Eun-Bi halted as she heard him and when she looked over at her study spot, she saw a threatening Yeonjun holding her favorite notes. Her eyeballs almost popped out in fear.
"Wait, wait!" She yanked her palms forwards, warning him to cease.
After the fight settled down, they both laid down on the grass, panting. Their heads side by side to each other. Neither had the strength to even sit up. There were a few dainty clouds that day, scattered on the azure sky and a gentle breeze was driving them to the north. Eun-Bi pushed her body up as she sat down, her legs throbbing from all that exercise.
Yeonjun glanced at her and tried to do the same but fell back, his cyanic locks fluttering with the air. She snickered at his frailness and he rolled his eyes at her.
Eun-Bi took a satisfied breath before she began talking.
"Been a long time since I fought with someone like that..." she sounded like a prisoner who had just been freed from his long and arduous sentence. Despite the soreness in his body, he too admitted that he had fun.
"So you're not normally like that?" He shifted towards her and gazed at her flushed red cheeks.
"No, I'm too tensed to fool around like that, with all the competition and stuff." She put her arms behind her on the grass, as she leaned backward.
"Must be real tough, huh?" He found himself pitting her wearisome days and surprisingly, he could relate to her.
He had no hobbies or pastimes to distract himself and spent his days planning atrocities to quench his thirst for the thrill. But in the last few days, he felt exhausted and drained and the monotonous mood of the school put him more on edge but rather than causing a racket and creating an uproar in his surroundings to match his insides, he wanted to rest, more than ever. The teachers wouldn't taunt him for sleeping during lectures or not doing his assignments and he liked that. BlackWoods was giving him a hard time, not by pushing him to change, but by leaving him on his own.
He had always wanted to live his life by his own rules but now that finally could, he didn't want to.
"It isn't that tough in itself, but I make it worse." She smoothly stood up & dusted off the grass from her clothes.
"I try to push myself beyond my limits and fret over things I can't change."
Her melancholy statement didn't quite fit with the greenery surrounding her, her light pink floral dress and loose curls made her seem as if she were a resident of this mysterious place, the scanty rays of sunlight that peeked in through a small slit between the leaves caressed her soft, wheaty skin as it escalated the fascination of this moment. Yeonjun couldn't help but stare at her and trace her fine features with his eyes.
Snap out of it, Yeonjun.
She started strolling around the park, her arms folded behind her, her body was loose; shoulders droopy. Yeonjun made another feeble attempt at sitting up and succeeded this time. He yanked his body up with his arms and caught up with Eun-Bi. They both talked a while and after that, Yeonjun left her so she could study.
Ting.
Her phone had a notification and as she unlocked it, her eyes went wide open with surprise. It was an invitation from the elite schools' organization to the biennial dance party that was being held at the end of the month. The invitation brought with it a mixture of emotions, old memories, and a raw chance to seek her vengeance.
