"George I had to," Sapnap said.
George hadn't spoke to him in over a week. In the days following Clay's death, George had not left his room. He had spent every waking moment meditating in an attempt to connect with Clay's Force ghost.
But everyday, he failed.
"No Sapnap," George said, still not looking at him. "No, you didn't."
The two stayed quiet for a long moment. They were currently standing in the doorway of George's apartment since Sapnap had come by to talk to George.
Sapnap had been coming by everyday since the incident, and George had ignored his knocks until now.
"Do you know what his last words were?" George said. Sapnap looked at George's face, which was currently void of any emotion.
"He said 'I love you Georgie'," George said.
"I-" George cut Sapnap off.
"Go. Just leave."
"George I-"
"Get out," George said, a harsh look settling into his face.
Sapnap stepped back as George slammed the door to his apartment shut.
Sapnap lingered in the hallway for a few seconds, staring at the door in front of him. But then he turned and made his way back down the hall towards his own room.
George backed away from the door. His heels hit the side of his bed, causing him to fall back onto his mattress.
He accepted the comfort of his bed, turning himself the other way so he could be more comfortable.
He stared at the ceiling, replaying the events from last week over and over in his head. He felt a warm tear fall down his cheek. He didn't bother wiping it away. He didn't want to move.
As George later there, deep in thought, he realized something. Clay never heard me say "I love you".
He hated himself for that. Clay had died, and George couldn't even tell him that he loved him while he was alive.
And George couldn't even describe the anger he felt towards Sapnap.
While Dream had been off doing his thing with the Dark Side, Sapnap had been at his side, no matter what.
When George needed someone to cry to, Sapnap was there. When George wanted someone to yell about it to, Sapnap was there. And when George wasn't feeling like himself, Sapnap was still there.
But all that is gone now.
While all of this was going through his head, one of Obi-Wan's lessons poked the back of his mind.
George and Clay were sitting crisscross across from Obi-Wan. The two boys were 11, still in the beginnings of their training.
"Master Obi-Wan," George asked.
"Yes, George?"
"Why do people go to the Dark Side?"
Obi-Wan day there for a second, trying to think of an answer the boys would be able to understand.
"Fear is a path to the Dark Side," Obi-Wan said. Obi-Wan took a deep breath. "Do you boys know why we have the rule against attachment for the Jedi?" He asked.
The boys shook their heads. They had always been told that by their Masters, so they never really questioned why.
"Attachments lead to the fear of loss. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. And hate leads to suffering."
George sat up in his bed. Sapnap had taken Clay from George. He could have been happy, but no. Sapnap wouldn't let him have Clay.
He grabbed his robe off of the floor, standing up as he put it on.
George let his feet carry him to his door. What am I doing? He thought. He hesitated, but eventually through his door open, pulling his hood over his face.
He walked down the hallway, feeling his lightsaber tap his hip as he moved.
In a matter of minutes, he had stopped in front of a door that looked identical to his own. He knocked quickly, tapping his foot impatiently.
A few seconds later, the person on the other side opened the door. "Oh, hey Geor-"
He was cut off by George throwing him against the wall across the room. He stepped inside, closing the door behind him.
"George I'm sorry!" Sapnap yelled.
George simply ignored him. He activated his lightsaber, holding it right next to his neck. "Speak again and I won't hesitate." (A/N all I can think of is that Vine where the guy goes "I won't hesitate, bitch" 😭)
Sapnap was literally shaking with fear. George hadn't been himself lately, so there was no telling what he was capable of.
"You took everything from me," George said in a strangely calm voice. "I thought you were my friend. But I guess I was wrong," he said, shrugging, which brought the saber even closer to Sapnap's neck.
"George," Sapnap said, his voice barely above a whisper. "I had no choice."
George lost it at that point. "You had no choice?" He screamed. "You couldn't control the lightsaber that you skewered him with? You...that's bullshit!" George screamed.
Sapnap had never been so scared in his entire life, and he had seen his Master slaughtered before his eyes.
George just stared at Sapnap, almost like he was trying to decide what to do with him.
He flashed Sapnap a quick smile. "Just know, you brought this upon yourself."
TW: Mildly gorey stuff ahead
He held the tip of the lightsaber to Sapnap's chest, causing the flesh at the surface to burn. Sapnap screamed in pain, but George didn't care. He was the problem. He took his lightsaber back, severing Sapnap's good arm at the elbow.
He laughed. "I bet that's gonna be a pain in the ass."
He felt so good, causing Sapnap pain. It almost made him forget about his problems. Almost.
"And...one more slice for good measure," George said, cutting off Sapnap's right leg below the knee.
Sapnap was still screaming, the pain becoming unbearable to the point he blacked out.
George frowned, realizing that if he did anything now, Sapnap wouldn't even feel the pain.
He sighed, stepping towards the window. There was absolutely no way George could stay at the Temple now, considering he had almost killed someone. He needed to leave. Now.
He opened the window, jumping to the ground below. Before running off, he turned and took one last look at what used to be his home. Where he was raised, where he was trained. His whole life was built in the Temple.
But now George was leaving his old life behind.
George was dead.
He was killed by the monster George had turned into.
