After the ball, the tone around the castle took a hit. Without the gleeful anticipation of the ball, most students realised that the only school event left were exams. Our teachers took every opportunity to remind us that our OWLs were only a few months away. And to make things worse, other years' exams were cancelled because of the Triwizard tournament. The only thing left to look forward to was the second task of a death defying tournament. And the scheduled Hogsmeade visits of course.
"Allie," Emmy was whining. We had agreed to meet in the library before heading down to Hogsmeade.
I suggested it mainly so I could write a reply to Remus thanking him for his advice with the Maddie situation and so I could send both him and Sarah some photos of the ball. I'd been writing letters for the past 15 minutes but Emmy was making it out as if we'd been there for hours. She was drooped across the table, only lifting her head enough to glare at me.
"Hurry up and finish that letter!" She whined, "I want to get to Honeydukes while they still have sweets on the shelves!"
Unable to listen to the rest of Emmy's whiny speech, or put up with her constant prodding, I scribbled a letter out to Remus about the ball and crammed in some photos I'd got from one of the Hufflepuffs who knew a kid from Gryffindor who was obsessed with his camera and we headed down to Hogsmeade.

Although the weather was warming, Hogsmeade always seemed to be in a perpetual winter and we ended up ducking into the Three Broomsticks to warm up. Emmy was happy now that she'd got her haul from Honeydukes and I was happy now I'd posted my letter and bought some chocolate frogs. And Maddie was happy now she had a warm mug of hot chocolate. Emmy and I had ordered the signature mug of butterbeers. The Three Broomsticks was packed that day and Madame Rosmerta was taking a while longer bringing everyone's drinks around. I kept glancing over my shoulder every couple of minutes to check to see if she was bringing our drinks over. I just so happened to look over my shoulder as Ludo Bagman entered. It was almost impossible to miss him as he was chatting to Harry so loudly I could hardly hear myself think.
Emmy and I kept giving each other smirky glances as we watched Ludo Bagman fanboy over Harry.
"That man needs to be stopped," Emmy laughed into her glass once we'd got our drinks.
"He's only embarrassing himself. God, look at Harry's face! He looks like he wants to die," I sniggered.
"Speaking of people embarrassing themselves," Emmy said, smirking into her glass, "You and Fred looked very...friendly dancing at the ball together," She said, wiggling her eyebrows.
"What are you on about?" I said, setting down my glass, "He asked Angelina, we only danced as friends."
"That's not what it looked like to me," Emmy said, again into her glass in a sing-songy voice, "Or anyone else, thought Angelina might punch you if I'm honest," she added, setting her glass down too and looking at me directly in the face. "He likes you."
"I don't know what you mean," I mumbled, picking my glass up again and pretending to drink so I didn't have to prove anything to her. Emmy smirked again and raised her eyebrows as if to say 'suuuuuuure'. I felt myself blush, grateful that the cups were big enough to cover my entire face. I knew Emmy was wrong about Fred liking me and I knew I didn't have to prove anything to her...right?
"Speak of the devil," Emmy said, leaning over to me and wiggling her eyebrows. I glanced over my shoulder again, hearing Ludo Bagman laugh raucously and saw him clap a startled looking Harry on the back. Then he suddenly went very quiet as the bell chimed as the door opened and the twins stepped in. They seemed to lock eyes with Bagman, who suddenly mumbled something to Harry, darted past the twins and out the door.
"That was weird," I said, frowning at Emmy who just shrugged, "Why are they being so weird?"
"Dunno, they've been like that all year," Emmy brushed off and tipped her mug up to down the rest of her drink.
"Well it's hardly been a year," Maddie said while using a spoon to scoop up all the melted marshmallows from the bottom of her cup, "We started in September and it's January. That's only 5 months."
"Still, 5 months is a long time to be acting weird," I said, glancing back over my shoulder to watch as the twins took a seat in the far corner by the window and watched intently through the window as Ludo Bagman scurried down the street.
"Do you even know the twins?" Emmy laughed, "They're weird all the time."
"True," I shrugged and narrowed my eyes at them as they began whispering together, "But it's still weird. They're being extra weird."
