Shortly after the second task, those of us on the Hufflepuff quidditch team had another meet up in place of a match. It came as no surprise to arrive at the meet up only to hear Kevin complaining very loudly that it wasn't fair that Harry got extra points in the second task. He kept going on and on and on about, driving me mad, until I couldn't sit by any longer.

"He didn't get extra points," I defended, making Kevin look even angrier, "Harry got more points because he did more work. He rescued that little Beauxbatons girl too so he got points for her. I don't see what's so unfair about that. If anything, it is fair. He got points for doing the extra work that no one else did," I explained leaving Kevin gaping, at a loss for words, "Besides," I continued before he could retort with anything else, "Harry and Cedric are both in first so I don't see what your problem is."

The two chasers from last year, who were now in their third year, shared a glance with each other, raising their eyebrows and looking between me and Kevin, waiting for some more drama to kick off. But before Kevin could say anything else, Cedric interrupted.

"It's been nice catching up with all of you but I've got homework to do and a third task to worry about so I'm going to have to cut this short," He said, clapping his hands to get everyone's attention, "You're welcome to carry on but I have to duck out."

"I think I'll go too," I said indignantly, making sure to catch Kevin's eye as I left, hoping to make him feel even the slightest bit guilty as I headed into my dorm room.

I walked out with Cedric, involuntarily walking with him as it seemed we were both heading in the same direction.

"I'm sorry I said all that," I said sheepishly when I realised that, to Cedric, it might have sounded like I was putting him down in favour of Harry. "I didn't mean-"

"No, I'm glad you said it," Cedric said earnestly, "Honestly, Kevin's taking this so seriously and at the end of the day, Harry and I are representing the same school, it seems stupid to pit us against each other."

"Exactly!" I said probably too enthusiastically. Cedric looked down at me with a hesitant smile and raised eyebrows. "Bet you're still hoping to win though right?"

"Oh of course," Cedric said and we both laughed, "But if me and Potter tied, I'd take that too."

I left Cedric in the common room and instead went to the library. As much as I'd have liked to, I couldn't do my homework hauled up in my dorm without a copy of Defensive Magical Theory which I would have to borrow from the library since Emmy's failed attempt at a strengthening solution overflowed out of her cauldron and dissolved part of the desk and my book.

I awkwardly marched through the common room, where the remainder of the quidditch team were still talking about the second task, with my head held defiantly high. Despite my haste to get out of the common room, I couldn't help but overheard part of their conversation. Kevin had undoubtedly seen me walking through the common room and had turned to last year's beater to grumble "I don't see what I ever saw in her."

Part of me was relieved that the whole drama surrounding Kevin's affections was over but at the same time I was also annoyed that he thought so highly of himself and so little of me. So what if he no longer sees anything in me, I never saw anything in him.

To no one's surprise, I found Maddie in the library sat at a small table in between bookshelves, working on a practice Charms OWL exam paper that Flitwick had given her. She was busy marking it when I arrived and didn't so much as look up as I slouched down opposite her and let my head flop on the table.

"What's wrong?" she asked, still busy marking but multitasking was no task for her.

"Boys," I mumbled into the table.

"I didn't know you have a boyfriend," she said, turning the page, "Fred is it?"

"No, I'm talking about-" I said, again into the table then snapped my head up when I clocked what exactly she had said, stopping abruptly mid-sentence, "Fred? What makes you think that?"

"I saw you two dancing at the yule ball and I figured-" Maddie said, shrugging innocently.

"Well you figured wrong," I snapped and immediately felt guilty, "There's nothing going on between me and Fred," I said, softer to show I was sorry, "He's a friend is all. And I was talking about Kevin. I honestly don't know why you like him."

Maddie sighed happily as she marked yet another correct question.

"He's nice," she beamed, "And smart. He got head boy, you know and since I became a prefect we've been doing rounds together and got talking."

"He's got his head up his own arse!"

"Allie!"

"Well," I said, resting my chin on the desk and trying to hide from Madam Pince who had definitely heard my outburst, "Maybe not. Most of the time he's alright. But since the tournament began he's been a right dick. He doesn't have to be so hard on poor Harry, he didn't ask for all this! Who would? Except for all those people who willingly put their names in the goblet..."

"I know what you mean," Maddie nodded, "It really isn't fair that Harry has all this hate directed at him. But I 'spose Kevin's just being supportive of Cedric."

"We're all supportive of Cedric!" I shouted again, and again I hid behind Maddie so Madam Pince couldn't see me, "But there's being supportive of our house and there's looking for an excuse to tear down others. Now, it might just be me, but that doesn't sound very supportive," I huffed and rested my head on the table again.

"He just wants to see Cedric win," Maddie reasoned, setting aside her paper with a proud "92%" written on the front page, "He's still annoyed about quidditch being cancelled and really wants Hufflepuff to beat Gryffindor at something is all."

"How'd you know that?" I asked, lifting my head a little up from the table.

"He told me as such," she said slightly defensively, "During our rounds."

"Oh yeah, I keep forgetting you're a prefect now," I snapped, "You've only mentioned it twice in this five minute conversation."

"Allie!" Maddie protested, sounding hurt.

"Sorry Maddie," I sighed, sitting up and reaching across the table to grab her hand despite her protests, "I'm just frustrated."

"Why don't you write a letter to your godfather?" Maddie said finally looking at me and I let go of her hand. I sighed and lent all the way back in my chair.

"I doubt he has much guidance left when it comes to boys and teenage drama," I sighed, "That seems to be all I write to him about."

"He was a teenager once too, you know?" Maddie pointed out, gathering all her things together and packing them into her bag.

"Yes, but he was never a teenage girl," I quipped and Maddie smirked, "You know what would make me feel better though?"

"What's that?"

"Going for an angry nap."
