Snow began to fall around the two of them and Lily pulled away from James. She hadn't noticed her hand had wrapped around the neckline of James sweater. She held the material in a ball tightly in her hand so James couldn't pull away. Despite the outside of Lily's body shivering, her insides had never felt warmer. James's hand gently pulled through Lily's hair and dropped down to her lower back.

"What if we just stayed out here forever?" James mumbled and kissed Lily again. She laughed a little and then let go of his sweater. James tried to hide his disappointment and he looked at the shrieking shack.

"We should go back," Lily sighed and leaned her head down onto James's shoulder. Neither of them made any attempt to move. James slung his arm around her shoulders and pressed his lips to the top of her head. Their knees touched and sent electricity through their entire bodies. "This is nice compared to the sucky day it started out as."

"It's kinda your fault if you think about- I mean my fault," James quickly said when he saw Lily raised her eyebrows. "Yeah my fault," He grinned and squeezed her and looked back at the shrieking shack. "Is that something I'll have to get used to? It's always my fault?"

"It's not always your fault," Lily rolled her eyes and tried to hide the small smile tugging at the corners of her mouth. "Except when it is," James let out a booming laugh and leaned backwards a little bit. Lily laughed with him while she smiled up at him. They sat and watched the snow starting to fall harder, swirling around and dancing with the wind.

The snowflakes were getting caught in Lily's hair and her eyelashes. As she watched the snow, James couldn't take his eyes off of her. The way that her hair curled at the ends and how the snow stood out as if it had fallen into fire. Her right eyebrow had a little scar near the end that James had noticed back in first year that made him smile every time he saw it now. She refused to tell him how she got it. When she blinked to get the snow out of her eyelashes, she scrunched her nose up ever so slightly. And her nose, god, her nose. In summer it was obvious the freckles on her nose and under her eyes. In winter, they were faded and James could only see them when he was up close to her.

Lily turned when she felt his eyes on her. She smiled so wide James was sure he could've counted every tooth in her mouth. Her eyes softened when she met his eyes and James could feel his heart melt every time he met her emerald green eyes. He would never admit this to anyone, but he hoped to god if... no, when he and Lily had a kid they would get her eyes.

"What?" Lily cocked her head and James smiled weakly. He leaned down and kissed the tip of her nose, making her giggle. His heart fluttered. He would give anything to make sure she was that happy everyday.

"Nothing, love," he mumbled and placed a small kiss on her lips. His hand cupped her cheek and Lily closed her eyes. She placed her hand on top of his and James rubbed her cheek with his thumb. She had a small smile with her mouth closed. "Come on, it'll be dark soon," James said reluctantly. He stood up and pulled Lily to her feet. Lily let herself be pulled close to James and they walked slowly.

His arm was around her shoulders and her arm around his waist. Lily's heart was still beating rapidly from the name love. She knew it was just an endearing nickname but the moment felt so right to say I love you. Lily pushed the thought from her mind as she noticed how dark it had really gotten.

"Here, let's put this on," James said as casually as possible and for once, Lily decided not to question it. She didn't want to feel scared or worried anymore. James pulled Lily into an alley and threw the invisibility cloak over them. James knew he shouldn't feel guilty about trying to trick Lily, but he didn't want her to worry. As she went to turn around, James grabbed her waist and made her face him. "You look so beautiful," he tried to keep his voice as calm as possible as down the main alley behind Lily, he saw the death eaters passing. She smiled and bashfully looked at her feet. He knew she could protect herself, but he didn't want her to ever have to worry in his presence.

"Come on, our friends are probably worried," Lily whispered and James nodded. He held onto the belt loops on her jeans so they walked close together. Thankfully, there was no issues as the two entered Honeydukes and went down into the cellar. James tried to joke and be happy with Lily but his mind kept wandering to Death Eaters in Hogsmeade. The thought made him feel sick and he tried to ignore the thought of people in their grade becoming Death Eaters. That made him think of Snape whose patronus was the same as Lily's. He felt anger coursing through his veins.

Slimey git, James thought to himself. James looked at the back off Lily's head. Her curls were bouncing with every step. He calmed down a little and smiled weakly. She was so strong. He knew that it was eating her up, how obsessed Snape was with her. If it bothered James this much, he couldn't even imagine how bad it bothered Lily. His obsession was too a different level. What was that muggle law where someone couldn't go towards another person? He had heard Lily talking about crazy muggle things too long ago. Restating Order? Close enough.

James was too lost in his thoughts to realize that the two of them had made it outside the fat lady. He sighed inwardly that they had made it safe and climbed in after Lily.

"Oh my god," Lily was knocked backwards a couple steps after being struck with a force. Marlene had thrown herself around Lily's neck. James side stepped the girls and walked over to the boys and filled them in quickly and quietly about who was in Hogsmeade. "We thought you two had been kidnapped! Or killed! You. Don't. Disappear. Like. That," Marlene hit Lily with each word and Lily laughed.

"We're fine, Marly, don't be so dramatic," Lily hugged Marlene tightly and closed her eyes. "Besides, who would've killed us? We're nobodies," Lily joked and let go of Marlene. She looked at the boys who looked a little grim but James gave her a full smile and walked over to give her a hug.

"You're so right," James smiled at her and kissed her temple. Marlene gave him a look when Lily closed her eyes and James shook his head ever so sightly. Marlene and the boys sat down by the fire and James looked down at Lily. He had to protect her.
