Lily and Remus stayed quiet, somewhere there was music playing and Remus tapped his foot lightly.
"James is so stupid," Lily sat up and turned to Remus. Remus smiled and nodded politely.
"I'm having deja vu," Remus leaned back and closed his eyes. "Except last time you were crying in a classroom, not the room of requirement."
"Hey, I am not crying this time," Lily smiled and bumped into Remus lightly.
"Okay, what are the other difference?" Remus folded his arms, he had a slight smirk playing on his mouth. Lily was ready to win this fight.
"I'm not in love with James anymore," Lily pointed out and Remus looked at her doubtfully. She scoffed and folded her arms. Lily stared into the fire and looked at Remus. "Okay maybe I'm in love with him, but I don't want to be!" Remus smiled at Lily and brought her into a hug.
"Maybe not now," Remus spoke softly. He kissed the top of Lily's head. "I think you will want to love him again, one day," Lily didn't respond. The thought of the future was terrifying.
"I just miss having any type of relationship that wasn't anger. Not even dating, just friends. He was so nice to talk to," Lily talked to the fire and Remus nodded.
"Well if you ever want someone to talk to, that's not James, you always have Sirius and I. I know I've already said it, but thank you for always being here for me. I'm always here for you," Remus squeezed Lily before standing up. "Come on. Let's have dinner," he put his hand out and Lily took it, groaning.
"You know James may have made my life a living hell, but at least I got you and Sirius out of it. Friendships that have made my life so wonderful," Lily smiled and wrapped an arm around his waist. Remus smiled and they walked slowly down to the Great Hall. They ignored the stares from everyone else. Lily grabbed a dinner roll and was buttering it when Sirius came and sat next to her. He snatched her bread and Lily rolled her eyes, but buttered another one for herself.
"Imagine having Lily Evans for a mother," Sirius took more food off Lily's plate, despite a whole tray being right in front of him. "Luckiest god damn kid," Sirius grinned at Lily who rolled her eyes. The three of them joked and ate together. Lily was finally starting to feel better.
"How's our Lily-Flower feeling?" Sirius slung his arm around Lily's shoulders.
"Much better, thank you," Lily rested her head on Remus's for a second and then on Sirius's. "You know they say dogs can help sad people."
"You said you're good," Sirius shoveled in more food. Lily pretended to pout and Sirius groaned. He jerked his head to say let's go and Lily grinned. She and Remus followed Sirius. He went into a broom cupboard. When they opened the door, a dog came out.
"I'm going to call you Snuffles," Lily smiled and bent down. The dog was panting with its tongue out as Lily rubbed him roughly. They walked to Gryffindor tower together. Lily sat on the floor with Snuffles laying his head on her lap. She gave him so much attention, she didn't even notice James Potter come down from the dormitory.
"Really?" He asked impatiently, looking from Remus to the dog. "I thought you were going to come back," James asked Remus quietly and Remus mumbled an apology.
"We'll talk when you come up," Remus clapped James's arm and he nodded. Remus waved a goodnight to Lily and she smiled at him before turning back to the dog.
"You know, I tell him he should make the change permanent," James grinned and poked Snuffles with his toe. Lily didn't respond. "Can we talk, Lily?"
Sniffles lifted his head. Lily nodded and he ran up the stairs. There were only a couple students in the corner of the room, so Sirius trotted up the stairs as Snuffles.
"Lily, I'm sorry for this afternoon," James sat down in front of Lily. "I don't know what came over me," he spoke softly. Lily was looking at her knees and she nodded.
"It's fine. I got to spend the day with Remus and Sirius at least," she hugged her knees and James nodded.
"Yeah. I noticed you guys were getting closer," James had a hint of annoyance in his voice and Lily narrowed her eyes.
"What? Can I not be friends with them now?" She rolled her eyes and James mumbled something under his breath. "Speak up."
"It's just ever since you started hanging out with them, I feel like I never see them."
"Oh my god. You're joking, right?" Lily felt the same anger start coursing through her veins. "If you guys aren't hanging out, that's YOUR fault. I have never, ever tried to take them away from you. Remus and Sirius found me today so you're the one ignoring them. Katie taking up too much of your time?" Lily was speaking without even realizing that she was blowing up. The other conversations in the common room had fallen silent. "Try prioritizing your friends for a change. Maybe when you do, we could be friends again. Or if you stop being an ass," Lily scoffed and stood up. James rolled his eyes.
"I forgot, nothings ever darling Lily's fault," he looked at Lily and Lily shook her head.
"Apparently it's always my fault when you can't take responsibility for your own actions. Seems to be a reoccurring theme of today," Lily matched over to the stairs. "Have fun doing patrols on your own tonight," she called and stomped up the stairs, swearing loudly so James could hear her call him a stupid boy, only with some different words. "I would call you a son of a bitch but your mother is lovely," Lily hissed from the top of the stairs and let her dormitory door slam shut.
