Chapter 15 - Lily in the hospital. Exams are over.

Lily´s P.O.V

When I woke the next morning there were a lot of candy in front of me and next to me sat James, Alice, Marlene, Emmie, Mary, Sirius, Remus and Peter. They were all looking worried at me, and I had a vague memory of being torn apart. I couldn’t really recall what had happened the previous night, at least what I thought had been the previous night. Alice and Marlene threw themselves onto me, when I opened my eyes. Both practically cried with relief. I smiled, overwhelmed: “Wow, calm down, no need to make such a fuss.” Alice cry/laughed saying “We´re allowed a little fuss, you´ve after all been out for a week.” I widened my eyes in shock, but didn’t say anything. Sirius spoke: “Yeah, Evans, quite the shock you gave us there, though impressive that you managed to stop that Slytherin asshole.” I smiled: “I had time enough to stop him before I fell, but who knew the counter curse, because I´ve never heard that spell before.” They all looked uncomfortable down into the floor, which was really weird, considering this bunch of people never shut up. Finally Marlene seemed to remember she was a Gryffindor. She started nervously, looked scared, as if I would have a mental breakdown. “Look, Lily… That spell was invented by a Slytherin student and he was the one who knew the counter curse as well.” I stared at her, and the others sneak glanced at me to see if I´d figured it out yet. “Well who?” “Lily, when he saw you, bleeding, it was just before he broke into tears. It was…” She stopped talking and I stared at her, I of course knew that she talked about Snape, not a subject I was keen to talk about. They were all eyeing me wary, but before I could react on the revelation, that Snape was the reason I had gotten hurt, but also my rescue, Madam Pomfrey came and started talking to me, “So, Miss Evans, how are you feeling?” Sirius started laughing, seeing the irony in what I´d just heard and the question. “I´m alright.” Was my very ordinary answer. “Yes, well, considering your condition the last few days, you seem fine, so you can go, but I would like you to keep out of these fights you’ve been getting yourselves into and come back tonight, so I can check up on you. And the rest of you, please make sure she isn’t alone at any point, if you´re with her, then there´s not quite the risk of her getting attacked.” I looked at her as if she was stupid, I didn’t need bodyguards, but the rest of them looked very serious.

James and Alice grabbed me on each side and helped me up. I walked on my own, even though I felt very weak. “So were do you wanna go Lils” Marlene asked, “Now you practically have protection to go anywhere.” “Sweet heavens, Marls, she didn’t mean all of you, all the time,” I replied with a head shake. Remus replied: “Maybe not, but today you have all of us, it´s after all your first day out again.” Before I could make a reply about it sounding like I just got out of Azkaban, I saw Snape. He was standing right outside the hospital wing, all behind me I could feel them tensing up, but I could see, that he didn’t have backup today and he mostly looked worried. “Lily, are you okay, I´ve been so concerned.” “I´m fine” was my simple reply. I could see the hurt in his eyes, but he had brought it upon himself. “Lily” he urged with all the feeling his voice could manage, “I just want you to know that I regret ever inventing that curse.” I stared at him, knowing that if I gave the sign I could be out of there, not ever having to deal with him again, but I replied. “Well if you regret maybe you shouldn’t have invented a curse, that hurt so badly, because I can say from personal experience, it feels like your losing yourself, like your just slowly fading from the world and believe me, nobody and I mean nobody deserves that.” I could feel all of their gazes upon me, I hadn’t told them what it felt like. Snape continued, “I´m sorry, Lily, but I needed to stand out, to prove myself to Avery and Mulciber.” Those words I didn’t need to hear, “Maybe then you´re keeping the wrong kind of company.” Behind me I could hear Alice mutter in my ear that we should get out of there, when Snape burst out, “How can you even say that.” I glared with a lot of hatred at him and asked: “And what´s that supposed to mean?” “Oh, come on Lily, you know exactly what I mean. Potter and Black, they are just as bad as Mulciber and Avery.” All of the marauders were tensing up behind me, and I´m guessing if I hadn’t replied to Snape they would have attacked him. “If that’s your impression then there´s something very wrong with your idea of good and evil.” “Oh, come on Lily, you used to hate them, and know you just don’t I don’t believe it.” First of all there´s a difference between hatred and hating someone because your friend hates them. Second of all that’s been a work in progress, I never go from hatred to like, with a snap of my fingers and third I need to get out of here, because I don’t think I´m supposed to stand anymore.” My knees were softening under me, and Marlene and Alice grabbed hold of me. We started getting out of there. Emma and Mary went straight after, but both gave Snape a very icy look. Peter and Remus followed and in the end James and Sirius who both talked to Snape. “Snivellus, you better stay away from her.” Snape not thinking they would attack with me watching waiting replied: “You don’t know her you are nothing, she knows exactly what kind of people you are.” James and Sirius both hexed him with ease, then apparently remembering I was there, looked over at me, not quite sure what my reaction would be. I shrugged and asked: “If you´re done, could we go then, because I would rather not faint.” Both looking relieved that I didn’t go all madman on them followed the rest of us and we went down, so we could eat.

Whilst we were eating professor McGonagall came and told me that exams were over and since I couldn’t have attended my exams, my grades were of my normal level in class, so I shouldn’t worry. Sirius asked: “Is it true, that you only went all ballistic on us, because of Snivellus?” As if I´d been another casual question I answered: “Yeah, I mean first time we met, you were arrogant, but it was first when you were mean to him, that I found my dislike for you, so I suppose if it hadn’t been for him, I would probably just have ignored you!” “Huh, interesting”

None of what seem familiar belongs to me. Please review. Next chapter is going to be vacation between sixth and seventh year. This was mostly focusing on Lily, so the next will be more details with the other characters.
