Transfiguration classroom, October 20th 1977, Gryffindor and Hufflepuff, 7th years

Lily, Marlene and Alice were chatting quietly whilst working on their assignment and Lily and Marlene were stubbornly ignoring James and Sirius' attempts at explaining themselves. "Mr Potter and Mr Black, keep quiet and work" Professor McGonagall said. Only 15 minutes remained when Minerva told them to stop working, which confused everyone. "In January you will have some extra lessons and before you all complain. You will have lessons, practical lessons, where you will learn or at least attempt to learn to conjure a patronus. Naturally not all of you will succeed and even less will have a corporal patronus, but if you can, it will help you at your D.A.D.A exam and maybe later in life. Class dismissed." The whole class was chatting excitedly as they left the classroom.

Their last class of the day was charms and Lily was having a nice passionate talk with Flitwick since she mastered the task of the day within the first five minutes. Lily then helped some of the others in class. All in all a good class for her until the very end. "Miss Evans, Mr Potter, please stay behind after class." Flitwick squeaked. Lily sighed and James sent a nervous glance at Sirius. "James, Lily as head students you have a lot of responsibilities this year. This is the first time you will be affected by it. Halloween dance. As I am sure you both know, most dances are only for the seventh years so you haven't experienced one. But it's Halloween. Arrange a dance. Monday 31st. That would be all." Flitwick dismissed them with an endearing smile to Lily.

Lily and James left in silence. Lily spoke, her tone polite, "We can use an evening to plan it, you get help from your boys, I from my girls and then we decorate the great hall that Monday morning, so we have the afternoon to prepare ourselves as well. Sound good to you?" James nodded, "Uh Lily?" Lily looked at him, "Yes?" James hesitated, "Uh, do you wanna go to the dance with me? I mean, it would be nice for the Heads to go together don't you think?" Lily shrugged, "Sure. But Potter, no funny business." James was grinning from ear to ear, "Of course, of course Lily. But about the goo incident. It wasn't." Lily held up her hand. "I know Potter. But I don't.... I don't really care that you and the others love pranking that much, but I can't be friends with you, when you prank me. And with Sirius and Marlene, it is all just very complicated. I know I haven't been nice to you and you helped me, a lot, when my parents died. But I just... I just can't." with those words Lily went into her own room.

October 31st, the great hall, morning

Lily and James were idly chatting, despite Lily's objections, had become some sort of friends again. They were laughing and chatting, whilst music were playing in the background and they were decorating with webs, spiders, blood, fog and all kinds of things. The house elves were preparing all kinds of delicious food and decorating it to look like fingers and eyes and all kinds. Around lunch time, James and Lily sealed the Great Hall so no one could disturb it but the house elves and they retreated to their dorm.

October 25th, Gryffindor Common Room, Midnight

"Sirius, is that you?" Marlene asked. Sirius didn't turn, he just kept staring at the fire. "Yeah. Couldn't sleep, you?" He replied. She sat down next to him. "Yeah same. Look Sirius, I just wanted to apologize. I know you didn't mean for the goo to hit Lily and I." Sirius nodded, "It's okay, Mar. He finally turned to look at her. "Mar?" She turned to face him as well. "I'm not good with feelings and words and such, but can we try again? We can start with the dance. Wanna go with me?" She looked him in the eyes and went with her gut. She didn't know why she was willing to take that chance, but she did it anyways. Her lips hit his and he responded instantly. After a while, not nearly long enough for either of them, they pulled apart. "I take that as a yes." He said. She grinned and pulled him in for another kiss before dropping to rest her head on his chest. "Sexy nurse and?" He asked. She laughed, her world content again. "How about Sandy and Danny from Grease? It's a musical, Lily showed me once. She can get us some costumes?" He kissed her temple, "Sounds good to me."

Lily was laughing with Alice and Marlene as they helped each other get ready. Marlene did Alice's hair and makeup – Alice and Frank were going for the classic zombie look. Alice did Lily's hair as she and James were going as a bride and groom who had been murdered, which meant their clothes had rifts and had been splattered with look alike blood. Lily did Marlene's hair and makeup since she was the Grease musical expert. (AN. Grease the movie aired in 1978, but it came as musical in 1971)

Lily and James opened the doors to the Great Hall and everyone loved the decorations. Music was playing and everyone was dancing. Sirius and Marlene spent a great deal of the time snogging, but they did have time for a breathing pause where Sirius for the first time, not in joke or easy going manner, uttered the words I love you. Marlene responded with a kiss and an "I love you too."

James and Lily had slow danced, danced like maniacs, eaten, talked and laughed. Lily had even agreed to go to Hogsmeade with him in the last weekend of November, but just as friends. Lily wasn't sure he was still in love with her but she wasn't taking any chances. After the dance, Lily and James somehow spent the entire night talking. Sirius, Remus and Peter slept. Marlene plotted with Alice.

COMING UP:

November 2nd, Locker rooms, after quidditch practise

Sirius was the last one left in the locker rooms after Quidditch practise. He liked showering alone with that much space sometimes. Marlene had discretely locked the doors. Marlene were in red lingerie that enhanced her curves perfectly and high red heels and a black V-necked coat. "Hey." She said. He turned, "Mar..." She had taken of her coat. "Yes Sirius?" Sirius' breathing was heavy and his mouth captured hers. For the first time in several months the two completed each other.
