So basically this how shuichi evolves or slowly kills his heart. This chapter is expressing the sadness shuichi has because the person who made his world worth living in who made his workd fun and bright...
This is how shuichi slowly closes everyone off because he lost his reason to be happy.
This is how he closes off all the love in his heart until the person he loves most awakens.
I know many have actaully done this. Closing off your heart because you lost the person who gave you a reason to live.
