The Great Hall was quiet for what felt like hours after Harry became a Slytherin. The Weasley boy was sorted after Harry, Gryffindor.
"Of course," Draco snorted. Harry didn't care as long as he wasn't in the same house. Soon, the sorting was over and Dumbledore stood.
"Welcome to another year at Hogwarts. Just a few minor things to touch up on. The Forbidden Forrest is, of course, forbidden," he said looking around the hall, "as well as the third floor corridor. Now, let the feast begin." Dumbledore clapped his hands and the tables filled with food. Harry's never seen this much before.
Draco immediately dug into the roast in front of him. Harry wanted to ask Draco about what Weasley said, but knew they'd have time to talk later. For now, he dug into the roast, too.
Harry and Draco talked with their housemates as they ate. Any time someone tried to steer the conversation toward Harry's past, Draco would ask an embarrassing question of his own. He grew up with these people. He knew enough and eventually they quit trying to pry.
When everyone was full from dinner, the feast changed to dessert. It seemed everything that popped up in front of the two boys was chocolate. With some persuasion, Draco managed to get Harry to eat a piece of chocolate cheesecake. It was a rather small piece, but Draco wasn't complaining. It was a start.
Two older students, a male and a female, stood and made their way down either side of each table toward the first years. Stopping in intervals, they would say something before moving on.
"First years, remain seated after everyone leaves. We'll lead you to the common room," the boy said, stopping and putting a hand on each of the boys shoulders before moving on again.
"Father says our dorm is in the dungeons," Draco said matter-of-factly. "That's where the potions classroom is, too. Our Head of House is the Potions Master."
Once the hall was empty, besides the first years from each house, the two older students introduced themselves as the Head Boy and Girl, Cronan Price and Isabelle Logan.
Cronan was tall and lean. He had dark chocolate hair, parted down the middle and combed back on each side, and eyes the color of a bright, cloudless, afternoon sky. Isabelle was on the petite side, at least a foot and half shorter than Cronan, with braided hair the color of honey and eyes that matched Cronan's hair.
"Right. Stay close so nobody gets lost and I don't want to hear about how cold it is down there. You'll adjust in due time, no whiners," Isabelle said, eyeing each first year before turning toward the door. "Come along, then."
Leaving the Great Hall, they made a right turn down the side corridor Hagrid went down earlier. Making an immediate left turn, they went down a flight of stairs. They came to another corridor with doors on either side. Walking a bit further, the group made another left turn and made their way down yet another flight of stairs. They exited the stairs into a corridor lined with lit torches.
"Here we are. This door here on the right is the potions classroom. The one across from it is Professor Snape's personal store room. Do not confuse the two. He'll not be lenient to anyone who makes that mistake. The store room is absolutely off limits," Cronan said passing the two doors.
They continued on for a minute or two before approaching a portrait of a man dressed in emerald green robes sitting on a stone throne. He had jet black, shoulder length hair and equally black eyes. There was a long snake wrapped around the base of the throne, making its way up the man's legs, it's head laying in his lap. He stroked the snake's head as his black eyes bore into the students that stood before him.
