"Have either of you seen Quirrell today," Hermione asked Harry and Draco, the three of them in the library after classes. "He wasn't there for class today, Snape taught it instead."
"He was in class yesterday," Harry answered. "Dumbledore came in at the end. Quirrell looked nervous and stuttered more than usual."
"You don't think he's missing class because of Dumbledore, do you," she whispered, bring her eyes up from her assignment, looking at Harry, before asking, "Harry, do you mind?"
A ripple went through the air and the trio were in their own little bubble. Harry's wandless magic was becoming second nature.
"Why would it," Draco asked, putting his quill down. "Have you heard something?"
"I told you two I'd keep my eye on him for anything suspicious. As you know, I sit directly in front of him in class. I've heard him muttering Dumbledore's name and something about power," Hermione said.
"My father said, as far as he knows, Quirrell isn't a Death Eater. He's never met them all, though, so there's still a possibility that he could be," Draco said, picking his quill back up, returning to his homework.
"I've heard him muttering about a stone," Harry said chuckling. "I think he really likes rocks."
They all laughed, a comfortable silence following. Harry let the bubble pop. His stomach growled and he threw his head back with mock exasperation.
"Is it dinner time yet," Harry whined. "I'm starving."
"Yes. Look at you, you've missed so many meals," Draco teased, snickering with Hermione. "The feast was only pushed back an hour, you'll live. I, however, am ready for all the holiday desserts!"
"Yeah because it has to be a holiday for you to over-indulge in sweets," Harry said, rolling his eyes before turning to Hermione. "You know this guy had never actually brushed his teeth, not until we became roommates."
"Excuse you, but magic works perfectly fine and it's quicker," Draco pouted.
"Being raised by dentists, I've brushed my teeth everyday for as long as I can remember. I tried the magical way once I got here, it didn't feel as refreshing," Hermione shrugged.
"Well I've done it everyday now for the past two months, so," Draco rolled his eyes. Harry and Hermione laughed. Harry checked his watch.
"Yes! Alright, you lot. It's dinner time," Harry grinned. "Let's go."
The trio packed up their school work and headed for the Great Hall. The torches that normally lined the corridors were replaced with floating jack-o-lanterns. The carved pumpkins were charmed to make different faces as students walked by.
"Since it's not a normal dinner, you should sit with us, Hermione," Draco offered when they reached the doors to the Great Hall.
"I think I will, thank you," she grinned.
They entered the hall and it was packed, floating jack-o-lanterns hanging in the air above the tables. Every table was full with lively, energetic students. They were all waiting for the feast to begin.
Finding the last few seats, at the end of the table, the three first years joined their peers. Not long after, Dumbledore made a speech about , then clapped his hands, beginning the feast.
"Our quirky professor doesn't seem to be at dinner tonight, either," Draco commented, filling his plate with food. "I wonder what Dumbledore said to him."
