Chapter 3

Julian woke up from his well deserved nap to find himself still hugging his best friend. He saw that the time was 9.53pm. They had apparently fallen asleep without dinner and he was now really hungry. Two minutes later, Dani woke up. She looked up at Julian who was still hugging her.

“Shit, what’s the time?” Dani asked. She didn’t realise that she had fallen asleep.

“It’s almost 10pm and we haven’t had dinner,” Julian playfully complained.

“Oh fuck. Well then what the hell are we doing? Let’s get something to eat. I’m hungry.” Dani was hungry, but she was rushing them to get out of this hug before he brings anything up. She didn’t want to sit there and explain why she broke down before.

“Wait, wait, wait, not so fast!” Julian pulled her back, “are you okay?”

“No, I’m bloody hungry Julian. Let’s eat please?” she gave him a playful smile.

“I don’t mean it like that! I mean are you okay from whatever happened before?” He brought it up. Dani loosened her push a little.

“Oh… um yeah I’m all good now I guess. I don’t know what happened before, but thank you so much.” That’s all she was going to say. She didn’t want to extend the conversation.

“It’s what best friends are for, right?” Julian smiled at her.

“You know what else best friends are for? Eating together. So let’s go!”

They went downstairs and ordered some pizza before chucking on a movie. Dani agreed to sleep at Julian’s house that night, seeing as she was going to be there early tomorrow morning to take Julian to the airport. She sat next to Julian, almost hugging, as they watched ‘How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days’.

“Seriously Jules, if a girl was like that with you how would you let her off?” Dani asked him.

Julian laughed, “I really don’t know. I mean, you’re almost as bad as she is but I’m stuck with you,” he joked.

“Ha ha ha, very funny!” she laughed, “but I don’t count anyway. I meant to ask you how you’d deal with someone like that if you were TOGETHER. Like dating…”

“Well the only person I could ever handle like that would be you, so unless she was you then I would tell her to calm the fuck down and get lost.” They both pissed themselves laughing. They hadn’t had a night like this in a long time. They both stopped laughing and looked at each other, still smiling.

“I miss this... How we were, before everything,” Dani said.

“Yeah, me too.” Julian then took her hand softly and held it. He already had his arm around her so he intertwined his fingers with hers as they both sat there in silence for the rest of the movie.

Julian and Dani both understood what was meant by ‘before everything’. It was before they got involved with each other. When they were just two best friends who hung out all the time, when they had only shared one kiss between them, when neither of them was in love with the other, and when nothing was as complicated as it was now. Neither of them ever regretted sleeping with each other, because they knew that one day down the track they would end up together. The only thing they both regretted was telling each other that there were no feelings involved.

Dani looked up at him to tell him that it was time they went to sleep, but he was already asleep on the couch. Because he had his arm around her, Dani didn’t want to move him. She got comfortable and fell asleep with him on the couch.

I don’t know why I choose to write at early hours of the morning but I had nothing to do while I waited for Surrender to be released so enjoy my third chapter. Let me know what you think :)
