AUTHOR'S POV

"How did—! you escape...?" Four hiccuped. The little girl beside him sighed, eyes staring at the ground with a heavy heart.

"...Mom and dad let me escape..."

The simple answer silenced her brother and neither of them spoke a word after. The memory was too fresh as well as the wounds in their hearts and Yoongi wished there was a way to make him forget it. Like a reset button or a fucking time machine to prevent it from ever happening.

"Jae I'm sorry..." he mumbled, confusing his little sister. "Why are you sorry, oppa?"

Four couldn't get himself to explain, afraid his voice would crack and he'd start crying again. Even so, Jae Eun stared at his side profile, waiting for him to say something... anything at all.

Four gulped, knowing she wouldn't be patient for longer and opened his mouth. "...I p-promised.... I promised to protect you..."

Jae Eun frowned and grasped his arm, knowing where this was going. "No oppa!" She exclaimed. "I-I know you're u-upset b-but... don't b-blame yourself f-for it oppa!"

Even as a young girl, Jae Eun knew what it took to carry heavy emotions, even grief, and didn't want her brother suffering for something that was inevitable.

She locked their fingers, making the older stare at her. A few tears have escaped her eyes already and Four reached out to wipe them off.

"I miss them oppa! I miss m-mom and.. d-dad..." her cries worried the people aroumd them but the siblings' attention was only driven towards each other, shutting out the world as they cried their hearts out.

Yoongi pulled her close and caressed her hair, soft whispers leaving his lips as he kissed her head.

"Stop crying now, Jae....Don't worry about mom and dad... They're in a better place now.... And I failed, I know that..."

"...You didn't fail oppa... I'm still here."

Yoongi gaped, doubting if his sister actually was just a thirteen year old brat. Her words, her comfort, how she went out of her way to make him feel better... It was bringing pride to his heart.

"Oh, Jae Eun..." he cried, lowering his head as his tears fell to the concrete.

He knew she just wanted him to feel less burdened... So he had to stay strong, he did promise after all. He promised to fight and protect his family. And Jae Eun was the only one left and he was not gonna let anything happen to her anymore.

His parents died out of his surveillance but his sister will be living her life, away from danger.

Far away from it.

"You'll leave Olympia." He claimed, "What??" and earned a look of denial from his sister. He wiped off his tears and gripped her shoulders gently as they locked eye contact, dark orbs staring into silvern eyes.

"I promised to protect you so... You'll leave and stay somewhere safer."

"But oppa-"

"No buts." He cut her off. "I'll book you a ticket to Italy. You'll stay there till I come and get you. I'll send you money and whatever you need."

Yoongi didn't know what he was saying... But he knew he was saying it for her sake. He will always be her older brother first, and a PHASe Op second. Never the other way around.

Jae Eun stared into his eyes, wanting to see a sign that he was joking, that he didn't mean what he just said.

But there was nothing but the profound love of an older brother for his sister.
