It's been a week since we've seen Zane, but he and I have still texted. It's like we're friends, talking like friends do. Jay seems on the fence about Zane, but I just show him that everything is fine. I don't know if he's jealous, because he doesn't get jealous, but the way he gives Zane and me a look whenever we are together... I don't know, but I can understand. I try to ignore it because it doesn't mean anything to me. I love Jay, not Zane. Jay matters to me, Zane is just my friend. I spend time with my friends all the time, but I guess with Zane it's different because we dated a year ago.
I'm on the couch with Jay. Movie night, I love these nights. Movie nights are when we can just chill out and be us. We normally get takeout, eat a bunch of junk food, and watch movies till one of us passes out. When one of us passes out we'll wake the other and go straight to bed. I love these nights, they are peaceful.
Of course, it can't always be a peaceful easy-going night. Sometimes we'll have to swap this night with others because something will interrupt it. Kinda like it might have to be right now because my phone starts ringing.
I turn it over and see Ethan. I show the name to Jay and he pauses the movie. I sit up, getting off of Jay, I answer.
"Yo, what's up?" I ask, and I quickly check the time on the clock. It's 9:45.
"Hi, I know I could call anyone else, but Zane's insisting it's you. He just came over to mine, drunk and high," my eyes go wide. "He started a pointless fight with me, no swinging or anything, just verbal. He refuses to stay here, but he doesn't want to go back to his place. I'm sorry, I tried to call others, but he's only wanting you."
"No, no, It's fine. Don't apologize. Umm, he seriously has nowhere else to go?" Jay gives me a confused look.
"No, I'm sorry. He refuses to stay here. He kept trying to drive away, so I took his keys. I can take him to a motel or a hotel for the night if you don't want to deal with him. I under-"
"No. It's okay. I'll take him. We both know how he gets, we can't leave him alone. Umm, I'll be over in about 10 or 15. Just make sure he doesn't hurt himself or anything."
"Yeah, thank you, Shane."
I hum then hang up. I get up, Jay following me to our bedroom.
"What's going on?"
"Zane's fucked up right now, and it's dangerous to leave him alone knowing his past. I have to get him," I slide on a T-shirt, then change into jeans.
"Really?" He scoffed, an eyebrow raised.
"I'm sorry Jay. You understand, right? He's still my friend, regardless of our past. He's not going to make any moves on me, I won't allow that. I love you."
He stares at me, then hugs me and kisses the top of my head. "I love you too. Be safe, and be careful."
"I know how to defend myself," I smile reassuringly.
"Okay, go on. Is he coming back here?"
"Spare bedroom."
He nods and walks me to the door. I slide on my sneakers, grab my keys, and kiss him goodbye.
"Be safe, I fucking swear you better be safe."
"I will, I promise."

"I'm here," I knock on Ethan's door. His girlfriend opens the door. "Hi, Laina, where is he?"
"Living room, crying like an idiot," she smiles sadly and gives me a side hug as she shuts the door.
I rush in and see him sitting on the floor next to their leather couch. He looks like shit, and he probably feels like it too. He has his legs crossed, his head in his hands, and his elbows supported up by his knees.
