Chapter 14

"How is he still hidden?"

"I don't know," I put my head in my hands.

"You were together for a while, don't you have an idea where he could be?" My dad asks.

"I'm trying to do that right now, Dad. Give me a minute."

Zane sits next to me, placing his hand on my back. "It's okay," he tells me. "Don't stress. He was texting you a lot, do you think you could bait him?"

"That's risky," I remove my hands, sitting up straight. "Maybe I could..."

"No," my Dad starts. "We're not putting Shane in danger."

"I promise you, Shane would be 100% safe. I wouldn't let anything happen to him," he looks my father in the eyes.

"Zane, I don't know," I pull on his shirt lightly.

"I'm not going to push you to do this. But if you do, they can get him faster."

"I'm nervous, what if he does something?"

He grabs my hands, kneeling in front of me, "I'll be there, and so will Hope and other officers. No harm will come to you anymore."

I think about it for a minute, then tell my dad to get Officer Hope. He doesn't want to, but he does anyways. I take out my phone and go to the messages. Officer Hope comes in while Zane and I read through the messages.

"Come back"

"Please"

"Where are you I'll get you"

"Are you with him"

"I'm sorry I made a big mistake"

I skip to the most recent.

"Where are you?"

"I've already checked your aunt and Sammys' place, tell me where you are"

"Please Shane-y"

We tell Hope our plan, and Hope agrees that it's risky but it's doable to where I'll be safe.

I can see where the police are, I can see where Zane and Hope are, and I'm texting Jay to come. He's close by, and I'm terrified. I look over at Zane, he gives me a nod with a smile. I look back down at my phone.

I see his car pull up, and he jumps out and runs toward me. My eyes shift to Zane, and I see Officer Hope digging his nails into Zane's arm to stop Zane from running at Jay.

"Shane, I'm so so so sorry," he scoops me up into a hug, I gasp. "I'm so sorry I didn't mean to do that. Are you still gonna leave me? Don't, please take me back, I'm sorry Shane-y. Please, don't leave me."

"Jay, calm down," as I bring my hands up to hug him back, I motion for them to come over. "Take a breath."

"I'm sorry Shane, I love you so much I didn't mean to hurt you."

I stay quiet, putting my hands on his side and pushing him back a step, his hand stays on my shoulders.

"Can we work this out?" I look down, catching a glimpse of the 2 officers behind Jay.

I jump back as they jump on top of him. I sprint over to Zane, crashing into him, shaking. He hugs me back, leaning his head on my shoulder; as if he's folding over me to protect me.

"Alright you two, let's get him out of your sight," Officer Hope moves us to his police car, and I watch as they check Jason in the grass

"Are you okay?" Zane asks me still not letting go of me.
