"This piece was made in the early 18 hundreds. 3 years ago a drunk man was examining it and pushed it off its shelve. The nose broke, and so did the ear," my fingers brush against the glass. "So, they started protecting them more, putting glass around the shelves to protect them."
"Where'd you learn all this from?" Zane asks leaning forward to look at the bust.
"When I was with Jason, I had some free time whenever he threw a fit, he would shut me out for a bit, so I'd do what I did best and I'd study art."
"Is that going to be your major when we start college?"
"No, I wanted to, but Jason doubted my ability."
"I think you should. I've seen what you can do, plus, you know a lot."
"I think I will, but I've been away from it for a while, so I'm a little nervous."
"How about we go on another date soon, an art date? You know, so you can get back into it."
I laughed and leaned against him, he knew my answer already. My hands wrap around his bicep, and he guides me along to the next piece.
"This is another one from Rome," I start. "Made in 1785. Remember the drunk from before?"
"Yeah, did he get this one too?"
"He did. Tore this one off the shelf too, the head popped off of the plate. The thing about these busts, is you start by making the top of the chest, the shoulders, and the neck. Then, you put in a rod and a plate, then you craft the head, you attach the two, smooth out the clay so it looks like one whole piece."
"That's interesting. I always thought it was just one big block.
"Well, the weight is off center depending on the pose, with this one, the weight is off. See how the head is slightly leaning forward," I pull Zane to look at the bust from a side profile.
"Oh, you're right."
"Yeah, a rod and plate had to be put in or it wouldn't dry correctly. Clay is fun and fascinating."
"Yeah," he whispers, I look up at him and see him smiling down at me. "I missed you a lot, Shane."
"I know, I did too," I push myself up and peck his lips. "I did too."
—
"An hour and a half already? I wanted to go through a second time."
He laughs and kisses my cheek, "next time," he mumbles into my skin. "We still have more plans."
"What could be better than this?"
"You'll see, love, you'll see."
So, he takes my hand and guides me away from the art gallery, I smile. This is the best way to end a date, what else does he have planned? I mean, I know he's brilliant, and he thinks long and hard before he does something. So, I know it's not just sex and sleep after going to an amazing gallery. That does sound good, but I know Zane thinks more than that, he plans his future thoroughly. Whatever it is, it's going to be amazing.
So, we get in the car and we drive. We drive to a park, the skate park. Our skate park. I smile as we back up the truck to look towards the skatepark. He motions me to come out, so I do and he brings down the back of the truck door. I see 2 skateboards and spray paint, along with masks. I grin and kiss him deeply. He lifts me and sits me on the truck bed. Deepening the kiss more, our mouths tango together, dancing on fire.
"This, this is what I've wanted to do with you since I saw you. The last time we were here, was magical, truly astonishing. I don't want to relive the night with you, I want to continue where it ended," he tells me and reaches behind my back. "Plus, I need to see how your art has changed in a year. Show me how it's done, art student."
