Janus POV:
I've noticed the absence of Patton recently. The others were too caught up in themselves to notice anything about each other. I decided to check on him. I understand Virgil being shut away, but why Patton.
I went to Pat's door, the white one with rainbow pastel flowers on it. His door handle was a deep blue, almost black, and when I touched it, I could feel the cold metal through my gloves.
"Patton?" I called out, hoping for a response from the bubbly side.
"N-not now Jan. I'm...occupied," he whimpered out.
"Pat?"
"Yeah?"
"You are a horrible liar"
"..."
I decided to pick the lock, something Virgil taught all the dark sides. Opening Patton's door, the room seemed empty. It was dark and slightly colder than it should be. As my eyes adjusted to the dark, I saw an eye peeking out of the closet.
I approached the closet, the eye quickly vanished. I opened the closet door, finding Patton curled in the corner. I helped him stand and he whimpered. Now that my eyes were fully adjusted, I saw unusual marks on his arms and face. I turned on the closet light to see better, and gasped at the sight.
"Pat..."
"I'm sorry! I didn't want you to see me like this!"
I cupped the sides of Patton's face in my gloved hands, taking in his new features. From the top of his forehead to right underneath his eyes, there was frog skin. His arms were also coated with patches of the same sort of frog skin, and his hands had lighter patches, mostly on his knuckles.
"Oh, Pat,"
"D-don't look at me" he said, trying to pry his face from my hands. However I held them firmly but gentle.
"Don't try to hide. I mean, I have similar qualities. Here"
I gave him my gloves, also telling him to wear his cat hoodie like normal people. Not around his shoulders. "I will go make dinner and bring you some food when it's done. Don't leave your room in the meantime," I reassured.
I went to leave but Patton grabbed my arm.
"Wha-What if the others ask where I am?" He asked nervously.
"Don't worry, cookie. I'll think of a lie. I am Deceit, after all," I laughed lightly. Patton smiled at the nickname, and I left, closing the door behind me.
Time Skip~
That night at dinner seemed to be the first time everyone noticed Pat's absence.
"Does anyone know where Dad is?" Virgil asked quietly, grabbing a bowl of Mac n cheese and avoiding eye contact with me. I smiled slightly at Virgil calling Pat dad. However, I didn't answer him. "I haven't seen him for a while, actually," Roman sniffed through a mouthful of food.
"De-Janus. Pardon. Have you seen Patton at all?" Logan asked. I set down my bowl of food, grabbing another to bring to Patton. "He's...not feeling well. I'm bringing him food," I shrugged. "That can not be true. We are figments of Thomas' imagination. We can't get sick," Logan pointed out. I let out an annoyed sigh.
"I'm going to check on him," Roman said, standing and drawing his sword. Virgil stood as well, but I grabbed the two bowls of Mac n cheese and blocked the way to his door. "He's fine! I promise!" I shouted. "Why should we trust a snake?" Roman spat, pushing me aside. I tripped on nothing and both bowls came falling to the floor along with me, luckily nothing (including me) broke.
Third POV:
"Patton! Open this door!" Virgil called worriedly, pounding on this door. A faint whimper could be heard, causing the others to freak out more. Roman kicked the door and it flew open, the lock snapping. Logan and Virgil stepped into the room, peering around, Roman behind them both holding his perfectly manicured sword.
"H-hey guys!" Patton said. He appeared to be wearing his costume from Halloween. However he replaced his glasses with sunglasses, and had long sleeves. His hair covered his forehead, his red hat flattening his hair. His biker gloves mostly covering the frog patches on his hands.
"Patton"
"Yes, Logan?"
"Why are you wearing that?"
"I'm just in the mood for...wearing it?"
Janus, still on the floor, mentally facepalmed. Patton was not good at lying.
"Patton"
"Yes, Roman?"
"Even I could tell that was a lie. Please change back."
Patton sighed and popped back into his hoodie with Jan's gloves. His hood was up and his hands were nervously fidgeting with the pompoms on his sweater strings.
"Pat,"
Patton sighed again. "Yes, Virgil?"
"What are you hiding? Can you please take off your hood?"
