Amyra's POV
I took a deep breath as I stepped inside the huge building I had been admiring for the past five minutes. It should be the nervousness or skipping breakfast that's building this huge pressure inside my chest and throat, making me feel nauseous. The guard suddenly stopped me for the ID and I produced the offer letter I had luckily remembered to print out this morning. I had to enter my details in the register at the reception since this building have few other companies other than 'Sky HQ'. Once I confirmed that the office is on the seventh floor, I decided to use the elevator instead as I'm already running late, thanks to Kaif. I found my way to the elevators and I tried my best to keep some distance from the people surrounding me inside the elevator. I started recalling the periodic table in an attempt to shift my focus from breathing, my eyes fixed on the LCD indicator displaying the shifting numbers. Once the elevator hoisted on the seventh floor, taking in a deep breath, I sprinted out of that horrendous ride into a huge hallway to make a best first impression on everyone. My eyes searched around for any signs of the office when it came in contact with a mesmerising sight. The wide sea twinkling afar under the sun was an incredible sight to watch through these humongous glass walls. I couldn't help but pull out my phone and click a picture. Suddenly my eyes fell on the time displayed on my phone and realised I have no more time to waste. I quickly walked around to find two huge hallways again. Seriously, how big is this building? I walked through the left one which turned out to be a dead end with no entrances so I made the obvious choice of trying out the other direction. Few minutes of walking and I came face to face with the huge carvings that read 'Sky HQ'. A sigh of relief escaped my lips as I opened the huge glass door and entered into the reception of the office. "Good Morning! How can I help you?" The lovely lady behind the counter asked me with a smile. " Hi, Good Morning! My name is Amyra Siddique and I'm supposed to be joining today" I introduced myself while handing over the offer letter. After going through the letter, she asked me to wait in the visitors lounge allowing me the time to take in the surrounding.
The environment looks fascinating and fun with the cool interior which is really spacious. I noticed a couple of people swiping out of the closed off work space across the reception and I smiled back when a few of them smiled at me. "Mrs Amyra?" I heard someone call out for me. I quickly grabbed my bag and rushed towards the receptionist and she invited me inside the biometric protected glass doors which led to a really huge hall filled with computers desks and professionals. "Hi, my name is Naina and welcome to Sky HQ! Since its your first day, you'd now have a meeting with our CEO and HR head" Naina informed excitedly and I smiled at her wholeheartedly as she led me to a closed off cabin. She knocked on the tinted glass door and opened it once the person inside asked us to come inside. I stepped inside and saw a lady sitting by the side of the elegant black work desk , probably in her late thirties with a warm smile which I returned happily,. Beside her was a man sitting behind the desk, and all I could notice about him was how intimidating he looks. "Please have a seat" the lady offered and I turned around to confirm if she was talking to me but then I realised Naina had already left so I took the chair in front of the desk and smiled politely at the two. I guess the women is the CEO since the man looked too young to be the CEO of such a huge and successful company. Dang it! Should have done some research before coming but in my defence, I was not really in a position to do anything useful except apply for this job. "Um...Are you okay?" the lady's voice brought me out of my world, a look of amusement on her face. "Oh! Yeah... I'm sorry. I'm..I'm just happy that I am getting this opportunity" I tried to cover up for my stupidity at which she chuckled nodding while the guy remained unamused. "So, morning Miss Amyra, My name is Ayaan Baksh and this is Mrs Christina, our HR Head" The guy introduced them nonchalantly. Oh! so he is the CEO! He seems to be in his late twenties or something. So much of success at such young age? Thats impressive! "Missus" Mrs Christina suddenly said. "Huh?" I and Mr Ayyan asked at the same time confused. "Its Missus right? You are married right? Mrs Amyra Siddique?" She asked me as she skimmed through the documentation I had submitted earlier. "Oh! Siddique is my father but yes I'm married" I confirmed and she nodded with a smile. "Oh! I'm sorry, I shouldn't have guessed" Mr Ayaan apologised which I politely dismissed letting him know it was okay. "I believe you were interviewed by Rahul and Casandra for the third and fourth round. We were kind of in a hurry for a designer thats the reason why the interviews were telephonic and so sudden" Mrs Christina explained as she glanced over at Mr Ayaan. "So, Mrs Amyra, I believe Casandra must have briefed you about everything and I hope you have an idea of the urgency and seriousness of the job you are going to take over. I was personally involved in the selection process so I am aware of your performance in Community Dome. Your academics are also quite impressive so we are confident in you boarding our core designing team. Feel free to reach out in case of anything. I'm sure Mrs Christina will walk you through all that so Welcome to Sky HQ" Mr Ayaan said as he extended his hand which I shook with a smile and surprisingly he too smiled back with a nod. Woah! He looks less intimidating with a smile. I was guided out of the cabin by Mrs Christina as she explained all the paper work I had to do. Today is going to be a long day.
I smiled and nodded in acknowledgement at my new colleagues who offered friendly smiles as I followed Miss Dhrithi who was assigned by Mrs Christina to introduce me to the rest of the team. "Hey guys! gather around please!" Miss Dhrithi announced once we reached a separated bay with a couple of people occupying it. Once everyone gathered around, the nervousness and awkwardness intensified. "So guys! This is our new team member Amyra and she'll be replacing Anand and according to Christina, she's exclusively for our Hand Synergy project unlike Anand. Yay!!" Dhrithi cheered and everyone clapped, apparently for me. "So Amyra, I'm Dhrithi one of the team member for Hand Synergy, and these are the other team members, we are about six members now including you. I'll let them introduce themselves and just a heads up, this project is kinda critical at the moment, I'm guessing you know and we are monitored and guided by Ayaan himself, other than him , we don't really have team leader its just us and its great fun. So welcome to the team!" She cheered once again. "Yeah! Fun and stressful!!" A guy from the group shouted. "Oh come on now, don't scare the girl! It's all good. I'm Sreesha by the way" The girl who dismissed the other guy introduced herself and I waved at her with a smile. "Hey! I'm Stan" The guy who shouted introduced himself followed by others.
By the end of the evening, I spoke to all of them. I carefully arranged the papers and grabbed my things as I started to leave not before greeting the team. Apparently the rest of the team are staying behind but I get to leave since its my first day and also because I had to catch up on the project details which could be done at home as well. 'Dhrithi, Sreesha, Stanley, Zaid, Tarun' I recalled the names of my new team members again. Everyone seems to be fun and friendly but I still can't get over the fact that they were finding it difficult to believe that I'm married. I laughed remembering Tarun teasing Zaid about how he missed a 'beautiful and smart' bride just by a month, apparently he's looking for a good match to get settled. They all seemed close, I wonder if I'll fit in. After what felt like forever, I waved at an auto as soon as I spotted one. I feel tired and just want to lie down on bed but the thought about reaching home made me shudder. Oh, how I wish things were different!
Please let me know what you think!!
