Chapter 19

Jason's POV

"We are leaving for the Alpha meeting in about an hour so before I leave I need to ask your mate a few more questions. Then we can consider her release." I told Ivy who stood with me outside Nicole's cell.

We had since moved her to a nicer cell with a proper mattress and had been giving her some more... nutritious food.

"Fine. But I'm waiting out here" she said stubbornly. I wasn't used to her being so upfront, she was usually quite shy but it was understandable, given the position her mate was in.

"Beta" Nicole bowed her head respectfully when she saw me.

I took a seat in front of her and cleared my throat, causing her to sit up more.

'Time to be serious' Jack, my wolf, said. It was in this kind of situation where I turned 'beta' mode on.

"I need to ask you a few more questions."

She nodded showing she understood.

"How did you manage to poison the food?"

"Someone was able to mask their scent for 5 minutes, it was just enough time to lace the food with wolfsbane as we knew where everyone in the pack was, thanks to the microphone."

"Is there anything else we should know about Kyle?"

"I think he was planning on working with hunters, I saw some hunters at the base once. They were talking about some deal."

"Where is the base?"

"We move every few weeks so they've probably changed position by now."

'I'm satisfied for now.' Jack said. 'Same' I replied.

"Last question. How did you become a rogue?"

This was important, we couldn't have a known traitor or murderer joining the pack, if it came to that.

"My sister and I were part of a pack that the rogues took over. We were either given the choice to join the rogues or be killed."

Her voice cracked slightly at the mention of her sister and I sighed. I stood up, opening the door to the cell and motioned for Ivy to go inside. She did so immediately, wrapping her mate in her arms as she sniffled.

"Take her to your room. She is not to leave it until Alpha Alec and I are back. Under any circumstances. Understand?"

"Yes"

I felt myself smile at the sight of Ivy with her mate, she had waited a long time to meet her. I vowed then and there to help Nicole's sister and my feet found themselves searching for my own very special mate.

Alec's POV

Hours had passed and Jasmine still hadn't woken up. We gave her a very light sedative that was only supposed to last 1 hour and yet she is still fast asleep.

My short and frantic conversation with Kevin ended with him informing me that an Alpha meeting was taking place tomorrow about the situation and I knew it was vital that I attended.

Looking back at Jasmine, who was now lying comfortably on my bed, I ordered Jason to pack some of his things and get a car ready. I mind linked 5 warriors to join us and told Tyler to watch the pack whilst I was gone.

As much as I wanted to leave Jasmine here to rest, Kevin insisted on her being at the meeting. The whole situation had me shitting myself, not that I'd ever admit that to anyone. The moment I started coughing up blood, I could feel her pain through our bond and I knew she could feel mine but I couldn't block it out.
