Sleep was all she wanted, all she needed, but Venus was woke that morning by an overly excited Octavia. "The first ever unity day on Earth!"
Venus groaned. "I know, Via, calm down."
"Alright, sleeping beauty, get up!"
"Just five more minutes." Venus rolled over, throwing her jacket over her face.
She heard Octavia sigh behind her before it fell silent. Venus sighed and got comfy again before she screamed. "Let's go!" Octavia grabbed her ankles, dragging her off the cot.
"What the Hell?"
"You're the one being slow." She shrugged.
"Okay, okay, jeez," Vee reached up, taking Octavia's hand. "We'll go."
"I have never celebrated Unity Day before."
Venus looked at her friend with a frown. "Never?"
"Never."
"Not one? Not even with Bellamy and your mum?"
"Nope."
"Well, let's make it a day you will never forget."
"I'd like that...so, are you coming back to our tent, for good?"
"Yes, I miss my own cot."
"Good. It's so boring without you in there."
"Hey girls, the speech is starting!" Raven called out to them.
The pair walked over, arms looped to the screen Raven had set up. Chancellor Jaha was on the screen and teens crowded around it.
"My friends, this is a historic Unity Day. Every year, we mark the moment our ancestors of the twelve stations joined to form the Ark," he started, "but this is the last time we do so while aboard here. Next year, on the ground!"
"Right. After we did all the work. Someone shut him up." Miller started.
"You shut up, Miller. No one's forcing you to watch." Raven told him. He rolled his eyes but continued to watch.
"For ninety-seven years, we have eked out an existence, hoping that someday our descendants would return to Earth." Jaha's voice came again.
"Whoo! Yeah! Monty strikes again!" Everyone turned to the sound of Jasper's voice. He carried a canister out of his tent, placing it down. "Hey! Call this batch Unity Juice! Who's thirsty?"
"Hey! Save me some." Monty ran out after him.
"Happy Unity Day! Pass it around." Jasper said as all the teens started filling cups with this 'unity juice.'
"I'm gonna go! I'll be back." Octavia leaned in to speak over the loud teens.
"Alright, alright." Venus waved her off, her eyes on the untiy juice, which was just Monty's moonshine. She shouldn't drink. Not in the state she was in, but it was very tempting.
"To our sons and daughters on Earth listening to this message, we will see you soon. The first Exodus ship will launch in under sixty hours, carrying you the reinforcements that you need, so stay strong. Help is on the way." Jaha finished.
Venus walked over and picked up a cup before she spotted Mel about to pour herself some. "Oh, Mel, hunny, this isn't for kids."
"Okay!" The girl ran off and Venus laughed, pouring herself some.
Then the pageant started and a little girl appeared on the screen. She was standing in the middle of a group of kids who were holding different flags for the different countries that formed the Ark.
