Thank God, it's all over. I was very tired, but I couldn't sleep. I was thinking about Nicolas, grandma, mom and Bulgaria. Would she, if she knew he was like that, let me into an unknown land? Lots of questions, but few answers. I remembered Grandma mentioning the Queen's sister, maybe she's sociable.

--------------------------------------

The next morning...

Mariella: Good morning, your majesty, breakfast is ready.

Me: Just a few more minutes.

Mariella: You need to have breakfast with her majesty, the king's mother. (She removed the curtains and the sunlight entered the room)

Me: Why?

Mariella: She demands it.

Me: Ohhh, alright.

Mariella: I chose an outfit for you. It is in the bathroom.

Me: Okay, thank you.

I went to the bathroom, brushed my teeth, washed my face, put on some makeup and put on some perfume. I looked at the dress, it was a simple but formal dress. It was knee-length, with long sleeves, in the colour of lavender. I put on a dress and black shoes. She put on a few rings and a bracelet. I tied my hair in a bun and put on a tiara. I opened the door and saw Petra and Ana.

Me: Come on ladies, we need to go on breakfast with the king's mother.

Ana: Oh crap. Can't you just do it yourself?

Petra: Ana, we need to go with her. It's our duty.

We walked down a long hallway, Ana and Petra just a few steps behind me, until we came across a large dining room door. I took a deep breath and thought- You can do it. The guards opened the door and I immediately saw the king's mother.

Her Majesty, the king's mother: Come, sit next to me, child.

Ana and Petra stayed by the door and I sat next to the king's mother. Her maids set breakfast.

Her Majesty, the king's mother: Maybe we didn't get to know each other very well when you came.

Me: I agree. I wanted to ask you some questions.

Her Majesty, the king's mother: Allow me first. Nicolas might be cold, but you didn't come here to find true love and live happily ever after. Nicolas knows what is best for his country, you should know too. A ruler needs to be independent. He does not have time or space for other things than his country. You can not expect from him to be your lover or your friend. He is your king and your boss, you need to listen to him, respect him and support him. If you want to be appreciated by people, you need to appreciate their country. But don't wait to be respected by the king. You are the one that needs to respect him.

Me: I understand.

Her Majesty, the king's mother: Just remember, you do not need to love him, do not catch feelings. You are just an object, decoration for the king. Now, when you are married, you need to give him a successor, a boy.

Me: Does he respect you?

Her Majesty, the king's mother: I am his mother, of course, he does.

Me: I am sorry, but I have to go. Lady grandmother is leaving in a few hours. I would like to say goodbye to her.

I didn't even wait for her answer, I just got up and went to my grandmother's room. Petra and Ana followed me, but I told them to wait for me outside the room.

Me: Lady grandmother?

Grandmother: Oh, dear. Come here.

I hugged her.

Grandmother: Just remember, I am one call away.

Me: No! I want to send you letters. No one can hear them and read them.

Grandmother: I see. But, they would take a long time to arrive.

Me: I do not care.

Grandmother: You need to be careful. You have a good heart, your mother's heart. Kind and warm, but you think like your father, fast and thoughtless. Do not allow that to break you. Think wisely.

I nodded.

Grandmother: Goodbye, my child. Write to me whenever you can.

Me: I will.

Grandmother: I almost forgot. Your mother gave me something to give you when you get married.

She handed me a box.

Me: What is this?

Grandmother: Open it.

When I opened the box and saw a ring.

Grandmother: It belonged to your mother. It was her engagement ring, she wanted to give it to you herself, but fate decided otherwise.

Me: It is beautiful.

Grandmother: Goodbye for now. Be a people's queen, wise one. And do not allow them to scare you.

Me: I will not disappoint you, I promise.

Grandmother: I know that you will not.
