Bulgaria will always remain in my heart

I had been sitting in front of the mirror for more than half an hour waiting for the make-up artists to finish their work. The hairstyle was done and we chose a low updo with a few braids. The makeup couldn't be conspicuous, but strong enough to cover my underpants, which were the result of a sleepless night. My brown eyes were made up with a shade of brown, which blended with the colour of my skin. They put a highlighter in the corners of the eyes, as well as under the eyebrows. They also put a little mascara on the long lashes. My full lips were a kind of coral colour, and my cheeks were pale red. They put a diamond tiara in the middle of my head.

Mariella helped me put on my dress and put on my white shoes. She put a necklace with three big diamonds on me as well as earrings with three small diamonds. She also put a veil on me that covered my face. Ana brought me a bouquet of light pink roses freshly picked from the royal garden.

Petra: Майка ти щеше да се гордее с теб. Правите това за вашата страна, не забравяйте това!
(Your mother would be proud of you. You are doing this for your country, do not forget that!)

Me: Знам. България винаги ще остане в сърцето ми.
(I know. Bulgaria will always remain in my heart.)

Grandmother: Are you ready?

She paused for a few seconds and just stared at me.

Grandmother: You... you... you look beautiful!

Me: Thank you. You look beautiful too.

She was wearing a silk dress with a jacket in the same colour of mint. She wore a hat of the same colour on her head like a dress with some ornament on top. She had a brooch with the coat of arms of the Bulgarian royal family on her chest. Despite her age, she looked younger than ever.

Ana was dressed in a strapless light pink dress with a floral belt around the waist. She covered her shoulders with a satin scarf. She had a flower wreath around her head with flowers of a similar shade as my bouquet.

Petra wore a red ball gown. The ends of the dress were decorated with a lace of the same colour. Like Ana, she also covered her shoulders with a scarf.  She had one braid that was slung over one shoulder. And on the other side, she had a flower, also the same shade as my bouquet.

Well, this is it, I told myself in front of big doors which led to a small chapel inside of a palace. Behind this door were standing my future husband, my future in-laws and my future people.  When the guards opened the door, my heart started pounding, I thought it would jump out of my chest. I saw him. He was tall, but I could not see his face because he was turned the other way. We slowly approached the priest and my future husband. I looked at the right and saw Petra and Ana. When we got to the middle, he turned around.

His light blue eyes were looking directly into mine. His brown hair was perfectly stilled. He was wearing an Austrian military uniform.  He did not smile, just looked at me without showing any emotion. At this moment my heart was beating so fast and my palms were sweating.

We sat on chairs in front of the priest...

Priest: We gathered here to watch the wedding of King Nicolas of Vienna and Uncrowned Princess Sofia I...

---------------------------

Priest: Repeat after me. I take you, King Nicolas of Vienna...

Me: I take you, King Nicolas of Vienna...

Priest: To be my husband, to have and to hold...

Me: To be my husband, to have and to hold...

Priest: From this day forward until death does us apart.

Me: From this day forward until death does us apart.

Priest: Now, King Nicolas. I take you, Uncrowned Princess Sofia I...

Nicolas: I take you, Uncrowned Princess Sofia I...

Priest: To be my wife, to have and to hold...

Nicolas: To be my wife, to have and to hold...

Priest: From this day forward until death does apart us.

Nicolas: From this day forward until death does apart us.

Priest: You may swap the rings.

We swapped rings and priest continued.

Priest: Trust, respect and appreciate each other. I now pronounce you husband and wife.
