Luke had told me to meet him at his house so we could go grab a bite to eat and maybe see a movie if there were any good ones at the theater. Honestly, this sounds like a date more than anything but I know that isn't either of our intentions. We're just going out as friends. I guess we're both just trying to fix things between us since my stupidity caused us to completely ignore each other for weeks. I keep reminding myself that this is kind of like a friend-date despite how Luke ended up kissing me the other night. Neither of us have brought it up and I know I'm not going to be the one to do that first.
I make it to Luke's street and I expect him to still be waiting inside his house but I see him walking in my direction. I don't think he notices me coming since he looks like he's in the middle of texting someone. He hits the lock button on his phone before shoving it in his pocket. That's when our eyes meet.
I open my mouth to ask what he's doing walking around but he beats me to it, "Where have you been?"
"On my way to your house?" I say sarcastically since it's completely obvious what I'm doing.
"Bree, you told me you'd be here an hour ago. I was on my way to come find you since you weren't answering my texts." He stops walking when he's standing in front of me. With the way we're standing he towers over me with his tall height. I almost stand on my tip toes to possibly get rid of the difference in our height but I would just look stupid.
"What?" I furrow my eyebrows and pull out my phone only to see that it's 3:30. We agreed to meet at around 2:30 so this explains Luke's annoyance with me. "Oh my god, I'm so sorry." I immediately apologize.
"It's okay I guess. Can you maybe tell me why you're so late?" Luke asks as we begin to walk back in the direction of his house.
"Michael was dealing with some stuff." I say simply. I'm not sure what all I should reveal since Michael probably doesn't want me going around blabbing about his pregnancy scare.
"Oh yeah, he called me not too long ago but I told him I was busy, waiting for you by the way." The annoyance is clear in Luke's tone at the end of his sentence.
I sigh, "Again, I apologize, I just lost track of time. Please don't let this ruin the rest of the day."
Luke lets out a sigh of his own, "No, I'm sorry for being so hard on you. I was afraid you were standing me up for someone else."
"Like who?" I wonder. I was with Michael instead of him for the last hour but I wasn't standing him up. I would never do that on purpose. That would just ruin everything we've been trying to fix again.
"Ashton." He mumbles.
"Oh." Is all I can really say in reply.
I guess it's understandable why he would be afraid of me choosing to be with Ashton for the day. I have seemed to choose him over Luke most of the time so I can't be mad at Luke for assuming such a thing.
"So what ended up happening with Michael and that girl?" Luke quickly changes the subject and I'm glad. The mood was kind of ruined by his accusations of me standing him up.
"Don't worry, he's not a father." I chuckle at how relieved Michael was. You literally saw the weight come off his shoulders in that moment.
"Thank god, I doubt that idiot could handle a child." Luke shakes his head.
"Aw, be nice. I bet he could handle it." I argue but in a lighthearted way.
"He could barely handle the fake baby given to him in that child development class he got stuck in." He laughs at the memory which I wish I could've been there to see.
