I'm woken up from my sleep with a set of three loud knocks at the front door. I sit up and stretch immediately feeling the soreness from sleeping on my living room floor. Abby and I pretty much had the longest movie marathon possible in the living room with a bunch of pillows and blankets on the floor. It was fun but the aftermath of it was somewhat painful.
Whoever is at the door knocks once again and I groan, pulling myself off the floor, "I'm coming!" I grumpily walk over to the door and pull it open before the person standing on the other side has an aneurism. "What are you doing here Calum?"
"Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed." He chuckles, not taking my snappy attitude to offense. "You know it's already 3 PM, right?"
I pull out my phone and just as Calum said the clock reads 3:03 PM. Well that's what happens when you stay up until the wee hours of the morning watching movies with your best friend.
"What's up?" I ask with a yawn. I'm sure I look atrocious right now since I have yet to brush my hair or my teeth for that matter. A good distance should be kept so I don't end up killing Calum with my morning breath.
"I promised I would tell you what's really going on with Ashton, didn't I?"
I had almost forgotten about Ashton and his sneaking around. Now that we're broken up I didn't have the need to really worry about it anymore. My curiosity about this hasn't stopped completely though.
I gesture for Calum to come inside so he can finally tell me the answer I've been longing to have but he shakes his head, "This is something I'd rather show you than tell you."
I furrow my eyebrows in confusion and I can't help but feel a pang of nervousness flush over me. Whatever Ashton has been really doing, he was doing behind my back and I was almost oblivious to it. If it's really that bad I know how stupid I'll feel about it and I don't want to be left feeling that way. I've felt that way too many times this summer.
"Just give me a sec." I hold up a finger and run back to my room so I can brush this bird's nest of hair and brush my teeth. I'm still in sweatpants and a t-shirt but there's really no point in getting dressed today so I just throw on shoes. I return to the front door, where Calum is still standing a few minutes later. "Alright, I'm ready."
"What about your friend?" Calum looks behind me and at Abby who is still sleeping like a rock on the pile of blankets and pillows. This won't be the first time I'm suddenly leaving her to wake up by herself but I know she'll understand once I explain.
"I'll just send her a text. She'll understand." I tell him pulling out my phone.
He glances at Abby once more before giving me a small nod, "We won't be gone long but promise you won't punch me when you find out."
"Depends on what it is." I joke but by the look on Calum's face he's taking me seriously. "I'm just kidding, if anything I'll be punching Ashton if it turns out to be that bad."
"Good, because I'm not the enemy here." He leads me to his car parked out front. "Did you ever ask Ashton about it?"
I get into the passenger's side as Calum gets in on his side, "Yeah but I'm 99% sure he fed me a bullshit excuse." I shake my head. I still don't understand why Ashton was so quick to lie to me like that when he always pushed me to tell him the truth about things. It seemed so simple for him to lie. Did he even feel guilty?
"I'm sorry, Bree. I can't really give you an excuse but I know he doesn't mean to intentionally hurt you." Calum frowns, putting a hand on my shoulder.
I let out a shaky breath, "You're really scaring me, Cal."
He doesn't say anything else, he only gives me another frown before pulling onto the street. The car ride is awkwardly silent since Calum didn't bother to turn on any music. I haven't gotten comfortable enough around him to feel fine messing with his radio though, so I just accept the silence.
