I would like to thank all of my readers for supporting my first finished novel, Melpomene. Especially to my fried, mssweets8 , who always supported me from beginning to end.
At first, Melpomene isn't supposed to have a Fantasy sub-genre. I intend it to talk about the hardships of being in a university, as I, myself, is currently a freshman. There are people who will always put you in your place for the sole reason that you're just new in the university, while some people will stand beside you, watching your growth.
Then, I managed to come across with the Thai Series, Great Men Academy, and an inspiration, or Muse (if you prefer), came to me. It asks, What if one of the main characters will have an unexpected conundrum? Like she will wake up one day inside of a body of a man.
I find this question intriguing and filled with endless possibilities. On top of the dramas an average college student have, a character will have a supernatural problem who, at first, doesn't know how to fix it. With this in mind, I played with the concept a little.
For my main characters, the ending seems abrupt. Goddess, after everything she went through, managed to reflect on her past actions and is on her journey to self-redemption. Meanwhile, Rose's soul is in a crossroads. Having tasted the popularity and fame she always want to have, she is in a similar path as Goddess was one year ago— she can choose to still be the same Rose or to be the new Goddess.
Several plotlines are left unresolved intentionally. Some of it will be answered in the special chapter, The Witching Hour, while several will be resolved in the upcoming season, Calliope.
It's a fun journey and I hope that you're still with me until the end of the Muses Series! I assure you it would be a rollercoaster ride, filled with gender bending twists and supernatural reveals, minimal as it can be, with a promise of more teenage drama.
Melpomene is written as an establishing and introductory season for my characters— Goddess, Rose, Laurel, Belle, Regina, Antonio, Mikhael, and Oscar. Calliope promises to add depth and complexity among my characters' relationship, either through more struggles or further development.
