Daniel's POV

"Dude this place is so much bigger than the one in California " Xavier beamed with excitement.

It was . This place was an abandoned race track . Trees had overgrown in the center and the fences were rusty , some parts of it completely torn off .

The crowd wasn't too sketchy . Some of them looked like motorcycle gang members. Some girls dressed a bit too skimpy .

Note to self try not to look at anyone the wrong way .

"It's freaking freezing out here " Evelyn shivered in her hoodie . I didn't blame her , I was cold too . The hot chocolate from the nearby diner had done nothing to warm me up .

"Oh come on , stop being wusses , look some guy is driving a souped up Charger. Damn that thing is sexy " Xavier admired . He was looking down at the track from the top of his car .

"Why did we come again ?" Evelyn asked . "He didn't want to come alone " I rubbed my arms , trying to warm myself up .

"Oh come on guys , it's just like old times , remember ? Us three , Rose and Wes-" he cut himself off after Evelyn gave him a death glare .

"I don't like remembering old times "she muttered . "Sorry , but look doesn't that look like Tony's car over there ?" He pointed off in the distance .

I looked over and sure enough there was a bright red mustang closer to the track . It could just be a coincidence right ?

I tried to get a good look at the driver's face but it was too dim to see anything .

"You think Tony races here ?" Ev asked.

"I asked if he does he said no "Xavier answered . I shrugged it off ,"A lot of people own red mustangs this one just happened to look like his , lets just watch the race ".

It really did feel like old times .

Bets were as high as seven grand . I didn't know people carried all that in cash around here . Back home the highest was around ten or twelve .

After three races a short , muscular , balding man made his way onto the make shift stage with a microphone in his hand .

"Ladies and gentlemen. May I have your attention please " he said . His voice made me uneasy .

Xavier and I exchanged a glance . Back home , if the owner made an announcement at a race it usually meant something bad .

"May I introduce the next race . One of your favorites is here . You know him , you love him . It's Derek Harper !" He yelled into the mic .

My eyes shot to the dirt track . A sleek black Charger rolled into the track , the driver revving the engine .

It couldn't be , Derek doesn't drive a Charger. I always seen him drive a Range Rover . But then again he is rich .

"You think that's actually him ? " Evelyn asked . "Who knows " Xavier muttered .

"Making a come back to the track , it's none other than Byron Collins " the man announces .

A strangely familiar bright green Challenger rolls on to the track honking its horn and revving the engine .

"Holy crap , that's Anna's brother " Evelyn exclaims . That's where I knew the car from . Her brother has picked her up from school sometimes .

Then I remembered my birthday when she had mentioned something about her brother racing .

"I thought Anna said he stopped racing " Xavier said . "I thought so too . Guess he lied " I replied . The racers placed their bets . Six thousand dollars .
