CHAPTER 21
Verdi – Libiamo Ne'Lieti Calici (La Traviata)

//

Today I switched on the radio for the first time.

For once, I wasn't listening to my classical music and instead waited for the ads to leave before waiting for what song they'd play on the radio. They played a lively yet calming song by a singer called Lauv. It played and left me thinking about how it was like a story.

It was a good break from studying. I never get stressed about exams or studying too much because I'm the one who sets deadlines for myself. Since I'm learning from home, by myself, studying is all I have and I create exams for myself and by myself.

Although one can cause themselves stress, I try not to. I have to look after myself because no one else will.

The only time I've felt looked after is when Es refused to buy me cigarettes one day or when Hoseok slow danced with me, twirled me in his arms.

Today I made Esmerelda test me on my knowledge. I handed her my flash cards as she sat on the chair and I sat by my window. She flicked through the vibrant cards as we listened to the next song on the radio. It was a love song. That's all every song seems to be about nowadays... love.

I started to understand why.

"isn't this song nice?" I said out loud, no longer answering to the flash cards with questions. "it makes me want to fall in love."

Es gave me a strange look, hand wiping over her apron as her hair below her scarf fell onto her face. "I thought you didn't see the importance of love." She reminded me.

"I don't." I said.

"I'm going to the cafe to study." I stood up, letting her know before pushing the flash cards into my satchel along with my other study materials. Es knew of the closest cafe nearby; she knows I wouldn't go too far.

But of course, I had lied because I wasn't at a cafe ten minutes later. I was at Hoseok's dance studio as he welcomed me into his arms.

I dropped my satchel and held him close as he whispered, "I dreamt about you last night."

The evening ended with us standing in front of the vending machine as he held me back and said, "no, it's my treat." As he got me a snack.
