The Consequence Of Extinction

The galactic federation council was now in an emergency session and Samus had made herself present for it , providing the information from her experience.

"Federation council!, just like you I responded to the distress signal from Ceres. I arrived expecting the space pirates but what I found instead was Ridley. Let me be clear about this, I killed him on SR388 and my scans confirmed his vitals were flat. The cause of his return? An ancient liform that was thought to have been rendered extinct when the chozo created the metroids. These X parasites have remained hidden and I fear we could be looking at a potential outbreak on the planet . That's why Ridley took the metroid instead of killing it. He wanted to bait us into going to the planet so that we would fall victim to the infection . As my previous mission and now this encounter , has revealed , the x parasites infect victims and copy their memories and abilities and can even mutate the host organism as is evident by the fact Ridley no longer needed his armour "

A council member from an unknown world stood up and spoke. "This is a crisis! We cannot just sit by and let the infection spread on the planet. You killed space pirates down there, for all we know the x could have infected the corpses and already escaped and infected other worlds. If they can copy memories and intelligence than all they need to do is take over a space fairing individual and they would have the intelligence to strategically choose their next move. We cannot allow this! We need to attack right now!"

More members stand up in agreement. But went quite as soon as Adam malkovich made his presence known . "We caused this mess! This council agreed on the genocide of the metroid species and our ignorance has left us in the dark about this even greater danger. All of society is in danger right now and I for one cannot stand by as our indirect actions kill billions!"

"Adam. There were pirates down there and they are definitely infected. If you send anyone down there they will be infected instantly. We have no way of telling who's infected and who's not and that metroid is our only hope . Well .. actually... not our only hope"

"What do you mean"? Adam replied in a puzzled manner. Samus activated the Varia suit and pointed at her cannon before deactivating it again. "The annihilator beam. I found this weapon buried in a chozo laboratory and according to them it was one of the only non biological methods of terminating the x. I'm stuck with this beam permanently"

"Samus we don't have time to spend on research and mass producing right now. Your regular weaponry is already too advanced for us to understand yet "

"I'm not suggesting that" she sighs. "This is the only current way of fighting back against them and it's the only thing that can make retrieval of the metroid even remotely possible assuming it's still alive. "

"No! I know what your suggesting and you are absolutely not going back to that planet I will not authorise it!"

The other members stand in agreement and shout things .

"You are forgetting something very important Adam. I do not work under you or the federation and have not for the last few years. Just because I accepted the last two bounties put forth and that the last one caused this mess , does not mean I work for you. Therefor your authorisation means nothing. You and I also agreed the galactic federation would never call upon me again after the extinction of the metroids so I'll remind you again that I don't need to take orders. If I am going after Ridley it is my decision and I will pay the consequence"

"So will the whole universe if you fail and they infect you!" Someone jeered. Adam bit his lip and narrowed his eyes . "You are pretty much the most powerful thing known to society and right now that is of great benefit to us but if you go after Ridley you might just end up as the most powerful weapon of the x. No one could stop you ."
