21: Mew's True Colors
Mew sat behind his table, observing his ex-host who was standing in front of him. He looked like he had a few decent meals since he last saw him. AA and Tong sat on the couch quietly taking mental notes of what is happening.
"Speak. Why did you go all the way here?" Mew said coldly.
"The same reason with what I told you at Clove. I want us to start again."
Mew massaged his temple, wishing Gulf was beside him right now. His boyfriend will always massage him every time he goes back after work. However, Tong informed him that Gulf sought Kaownah the other day, something he didn't expect. He didn't want to produce more quarrel between these two, so he opted to have Gulf escorted back home.
"You know that's not possible, Kao. I already have Gulf."
"You can break up with him." Kao said as if this isn't a big deal. "Who is he? He's just someone you picked to forget about me. But I'm here now. I'm back."
"I do not accept runaway hosts. You are forgetting. I am a client, Kao. You are nothing but a Clove whore."
Tong and AA looked at each other uncomfortably. They felt the venom in his words that even if they weren't involved in the issue they felt their heart getting pinched at the manner it was said.
Expectedly, Kaownah teared up. He was used to a gentle and loving Mew. The Mew he knows would never treat him like a host – a more acceptable term than being a whore.
"You don't mean that." Kaownah said. "I was a lover to you."
"Was. Do you still not get it? We were over the moment you left me."
"But I just wanted to clear my head! How could you blame me? I was getting suffocated. I needed a breather."
"You turned your back on me Kaownah. You broke up with me." Mew said. "You could've asked for space."
"I know! I was wrong! I'm sorry!" Kaownah cried.
Behind the table, Mew curled his fist to stop himself from reaching out to wipe his tears.
"I do not want to prolong your agony, Kao. I am not leaving Gulf just because you came back. Leave. Now." Mew commanded. To emphasize his point, he stood up and opened the door for him.
Kaownah didn't move. Mew really has changed. In the past, he would not let a single tear fall down from his eyes. Now, he doesn't even make an effort to console him.
"I'm not leaving until you come back to me."
"You don't want to be forced out of this building. There's nothing between us anymore. I'm done talking to you. Leave. My boyfriend is waiting."
"Mew!" he protested.
"Hear that, idiot? He doesn't want you. Don't bother us anymore!"
All of them stared at the door. Gulf was panting as he stood there, glaring at Kaownah. AA coughed shiftily as Mew gave him a demanding look.
"Babe, how come you're here?" Mew asked in a tone that was very different from the one he was using with Kaownah. Now, it was soothing. He specifically asked AA to make sure Gulf arrives home.
