City of Love

The next morning I woke up with the sun in my eyes again. I rubbed them then realized it was late. I looked around for Kitty and saw him sleeping on the top of a dumpster, curled up like a cat.

That little...

I got up and pushed him off. He screamed in surprise when he hit the ground. He sat up, looking around frantically, then relaxed when he realized it was just me.

"I told you to stay awake you idiot!" I shouted, opening the empty dumpster and taking out our luggage.

"I was tired..." He murmured, grabbing his stuff.

When I turned around my eyes focused on the ground. There was a white piece of paper, wet from the damp ground. I picked it up and Kitty looked over my shoulder at it.

Shall we play a game of cat and mouse?

Rules: Don't get caught.

I barely had time to look at Kitty when we heard a gunshot. We both cursed and got our guns, shoving our luggage back inside the dumpster. We ran for it.

There were more gunshots as we ran, but as soon as we got to a more crowded area, we slowed to a brisk walk. They wouldn't shoot a crowd of people.

"We just don't get a break, do we?" Kitty growled.

I put my hood on and so did he. I placed my hand on his back, urging him to go faster. "We've had plenty of breaks, Kitty Gang." I glanced behind us. "I kind of missed the action."

There was another gunshot and a pedestrian next to us collapsed to the ground, dead. People started to panic and run, so we did too.

"What kind of maniac found us already?" Kitty groaned. "It's only been a week or so."

I mentally shrugged because I couldn't while running. "I guess news and rumors spread fast." A bullet whizzed past my ear.

Kitty and I looked at each other, taking a left turn down another road. "One person?" He asked, and I nodded.

"Let's split up." I said, and he nodded back. "We'll meet by that hotel over there." I pointed a bit. At another intersection we split up, going different ways.

Even though I heard no more gunshots, I still ran. I ran all the way until I got to the hotel, which hurt my side. I looked around for Kitty but didn't see him, getting a bit worried.

"Kitty?" I called, still trying to catch my breath.

I felt a hand on my shoulder and wheeled around, then noticed it was just Kitty. His face and arms had a little blood on it and I hurried to wipe it off.

"What happened?" I asked.

We started walking down the sidewalk. "Turns out it was just some bounty hunter trying to get his hands on some money."

"Is he dead?"

"Of course he's dead."

"Good." I paused. "Hopefully he wasn't significant to anyone or anything big." Kitty nodded. "Where to now?" I asked, and he looked at me quizzically. "We can't stay here. Where to next?"

He thought for a moment. "What about Japan?" I scoffed. "Why not Japan?"

"Because the police are looking for us there too."

"Oh." He hummed. "You know somewhere I've always wanted to go?"

"Hm? Where's that?"

He smirked at me. "The city of love."
