Chapter 17

"Sorry for the intrusion..." Leah mumbled as Ethan led her inside the two-story grey brick house. The patio floor was made out of wood so their footsteps echoed on the little steps, there were two garage doors, the smaller door left open so she could see his motor-bike parked inside. The lawn was cared for and a tall tree grew near.

Ethan's house seemed a lot more normal and friendlier than she imagined.

"It isn't much" Ethan said as he locked the door behind them, placing the bags on the ground momentarily.

Leah shakes her head, offering a small smile to the brunet, "It's beautiful" she said truthfully, looking around the simple interior design of the house, the walls were mostly painted white or light green and a lot of plants filled the spaces.

Most of the floor was made out of wood and inside the living room, there were greyish-green couches and a TV, family pictures with a variety of people she could only assume was Ethan's relatives hang on the walls neatly.

"It looks like home"

She saw Ethan smiling at that, puffing his chest slightly as if to tell her that he was beyond flattered at her compliment. She chuckled to herself, he was so easy to please.

Ethan led her up the wooden staircase where she saw three separate doors, the one at the end of the hallway was the bathroom as she could see it from the door being slightly ajar.

The light on the second floor was off so the hallway seemed darker than the rest of the house. Unlike downstairs, the wall on the second floor seemed planer and empty, like it was isolated.

"Be careful, Leah. The light broke a long time ago and I forgot to replace it with a new one" Ethan said, smiling sheepishly at her.

Ethan pull down the knob of the door at the left and he hold the door for her despite his hands being full. Then again, she too had her hands full with the cage being pressed against her chest.

She entered his room, the walls were painted plain grey and the wooden flooring was darker than the rest of the house, an auburn-like color. His king-sized bed was positioned at the right side corner a study table a few feet away facing the window, and a dark wooden dresser was against the wall, some of the shelves not properly closed allowing her to see the unorganized thrown clothes.

"Sorry if it's a little messy..." Ethan mumbled shyly as he closed the door behind her and pick up a few shirt laying near the floor of his dresser, before throwing them inside. He gave her a small smile while doing so.

Leah smiled until she realized what situation she was in for the first time- inside a boy's bedroom alone and no one was inside the house. Her body tensed as she suddenly felt conscious.

Ethan grabbed all the shopping bags and placed it on top of his bed, he then walked closer to her. Leah's eyes widened when she saw him eyeing her and just as she was about to take a step back, he grabbed the case from her hand and places it at the feet of the bed.

"Meow..."

Her attention snapped to the meek sound coming from on her right, there at the other corner of the room, across the bed, was a rectangular shaped box covered with a familiar cloth that was once hers, a little ginger kitten meowed as it struggles to be out of the box.

Dropping her bag against the wall, Leah squatted down near the box and cooed as she saw the adorable kitten, letting it familiar with her smell first before lifting it outside the box.

As if the cat already knew her, the cat leaned to her touch and climbed on her lap while it trembles slightly. She meowed to it, petting underneath his neck and head.
