Chapter 6
Ethan felt his heart thumped at her kindness and his cheek suddenly reddened.
Was she worried about him?
Was he stuck inside her mind?
Did she had sleepless nights just like him too? Was she wondering if he was in pain?
Did she care for him?
Ethan cleared his throat to snap himself out from it, the back of his hand covering his slowly reddening cheeks until it dissipated. He glanced at his leg and shifted it back and forth, stretching his leg lightly as he wanted to ease her concern . "It could be worse"
He noticed her nodding her head and looking anywhere but him. Adorable. She had already pulled out her earphones from her ear, he couldn't help but wonder what she was listening to this time. What were her favorite songs that she always listened to?
"Thank you... for this" he trailed off nervously, his finger pointing at the Band aid she had given him. Even though the wound had already healed long ago and there was absolutely no use to wearing it, he thought he should still let her see it before he took it off and perhaps put it in a container for his collection.
She looked at it for a while before chuckling a little, a finger lifting to cover her mouth. He swallowed a lump in his throat, just the light sound of it sounds amazing, imagine her laugh.
"I am sure you don't need to wear it any longer... It was a small cut, no?" she asked and he nodded his head at her. He liked the idea of her finding him silly for still wearing it. She'd be more relax around him.
The girl smiled lightly, "Sorry for bumping into you, hope it didn't worsen your injuries" she said and he shake his head,
"It didn't" Ethan reassured and the girl nodded. Ethan's eyes fell to her blonde hair tied in a pony-tail, showing off her slender sexy neck. Even her neck looked tempting. She was wearing her blazer school uniform and the tie tied neatly, was she good at it? Due to it being daylight, he could see her beautiful features better.
To him, she looked absolutely astonishing, even a sky full of stars would look bland compared to her, her beauty and her eyes that matches the color of light flashing through a jar of honey.
"I am Ethan" Ethan said, clearing his throat as he realized he might have stared for too long as she begins shifting her leg awkwardly. He pulled out his hand to hers.
She offered him a small smile in return, clasping his hands, he felt the warmth igniting to his heart. "Leah"
Leah.
She retracted back her hand and he hide the disappointment he felt from the loss contact.
"Well, Ethan, it was a pleasure of meeting you..." Believe me, the pleasure is all mine.
"I need to go... I hope you make it home safely"
"You too" Ethan replied back, offering her a rare gentle smile.
Leah slowly took a few steps back, before turning around and tried walking as casually as possible but he knew she felt stiff.
She looked over her shoulders and waved at him as he stays rooted at the spot.
He waved back.
As her figure disappear from his sight, turning to another corner, Ethan dropped his hand to his side and sighed loudly.
"Leah" he whispered, feeling his heart pick up, what was this foreign feeling that was slowly overwhelming all his senses.
Ethan wasn't really sure what was happening with himself but one thing was for sure,
He couldn't wait to see her again.
-------------------
Leah was walking towards school the next morning.
She had left her house rather earlier than usual as she wanted to stop at a coffee shop nearby to eat some breakfast before school begin.
The young woman walked on the pavement until she stopped In-front of a coffee shop and she pushed the glass door from outside.
The bell chimed loudly as she entered, glancing around the few people sipping their own coffee while browsing through their phones or typing away on their laptop.
"What can I get for this lovely lady?" Leah offered a smile at the woman who spoke behind the counter. The woman looked to be in her forties. Her slightly curly brown hair tied into a messy bun behind her back, her eyes blue and freckles covered across her nose and sharp cheeks, her forehead creased with age lines and the corner of her eyes had wrinkles from the smile she always had. She wore the shop's black apron uniform with a long sleeve white button shirt underneath and black trousers.
"Just normal coffee and a chicken slice sandwich please" Leah said while glancing at the name tag on the woman's apron, Jennifer.
"What's your name, girl?" the woman asked, calling for the barista.
"Leah"
"Leah. Please wait for a moment" Jennifer said after Leah paid for her order and the barista made her coffee behind the counter.
"Nice uniform. Is it that the girl school nearby?"
Leah subconsciously glanced down on her uniform, she wore a long sleeve sweater with a white shirt underneath and a tie today.
"Yeah"
Jennifer nodded her head, smiling in envy, "Wish my school had a uniform" Leah chuckled lightly, "I wish we didn't"
"Humans will never be satisfied, won't they?" Jennifer asked with a smile and Leah nodded her head in agreement, laughing lightly.
The sound of the bell chiming shifted Jennifer's attention as the woman glanced behind her back, asking, "Did you bring it?"
Leah's coffee arrived on the counter, even though she was the only one standing, the barista still called her name loudly, "Leah!"
Leah walked aside from the cashier, and reached for her coffee and brown paper bag that had her food in it. As she held the coffee cup, a familiar voice said her name out loud from behind.
"Leah...?"
The young woman glanced over her shoulder, her eyes widening a fraction when she saw the familiar male from yesterday.
"Ethan" she replied back, holding her warm coffee and paper bag.
Jennifer from behind the counter lifted an eyebrow as she glanced at Ethan and her back and forth. "You two know each other?" the woman asked and Ethan nodded his head enthusiastically, stopping Leah from shaking her head beforehand.
That'd be awkward.
Ethan placed what seem like a phone in his hand on the counter and without even glancing at Jennifer, a woman who seemed he had been acquaintance with, he walked towards Leah until he was towering her with his tall height.
"Hey" he asked, slightly breathless.
"Good morning" Leah answered back. "School hasn't start... Thought I stopped for some breakfast. What about you?" she asked to dissipate the awkward tension.
He shrugged his shoulders casually, "My aunt forgot her phone" he said, Leah glanced over his shoulder to Jennifer. "Aunt?"
"Yeah"
A deafening silence passed by, as Leah took a step back, "Then-
"Can I eat with you?" Ethan cut her off before she could excuse herself.
She thought in silence for a moment before hesitantly nodding her head, feeling both bad and awkward if she rejected him especially In-front of his very nice aunt.
"You can pick a spot. I'll just order a sandwich" Ethan said and Leah nodded her head, turning around.
