Amara's POV

The week break was almost over, with the sports festival tomorrow. My body was heavy with fatigue from working out at the gym every single day since. I groaned at the light that entered my room through the tiny cracks of my blinds. I hazily flung the black covers off the bed and stomped clumsily to my door. One of our cats greeted me, its green eyes staring right through me as I walked past him and toward the kitchen. It was a short walk, and I immediately turned the coffee machine on. It made loud mechanical noises as it warmed itself up. A warm, fluffy tail wrapped around me as another one of our house cats greeted me. This black and white one was my baby, Noodle.

I bent over and gently picked Noodle up, snuggling into him, much to his dismay. I rubbed my face into his shiny fur while I waited for the coffee machine to hurry up.

"Good morning." Shouta sheepishly rubbed his face awkwardly with his bandaged wrist. His wounds were far from healed, but at least he could move his arms more. He didn't say anything as he disappeared just as quickly as he appeared.

I'll never understand that strange man. How are we related again?

The coffee machine chirped at me, and my heart perked up. I placed Noodle back onto the ground. He swayed his tail in annoyance at me for disturbing him before waddling away, out of sight. I quickly made myself a coffee and carried it up to the darkness of my room. Tiny fragments of light seeped through the blinds, and that was enough for me to see. I sat back in bed and grabbed my phone. I noticed I had an unread message from Todoroki. He had been texting me all week since the break started. I opened it and read:

Hey, would you like to go and grab a coffee today before the sports festival? I can pick you up.

I chewed on my bottom lip before setting my coffee on my bedside table to type a response.

Hola, that sounds like fun. What time?

I set my phone in front of me, not expecting him to reply for ages. I took a sip of my coffee, relishing in the scent of it. My phone vibrated, and I glanced down at it. He had already replied.

How about now? I'll be there soon.

Panic tore through me as I realized he would be here soon. I wasn't even dressed yet or anything. I had already told him my address the other day, so I knew he wouldn't take long. I perched my coffee onto my bedside table as I sprung up from my black bed. My eyes skimmed through the clothes that hung in my closet, my fingers feeling the different materials.

I settled on a black hoodie and a short black skirt. I moved to my drawer and picked out my cute black socks. I was happy with the outfit I had planned and slid them on. I quickly gulped down my coffee, almost scalding the back of my throat.

How ironic, considering I can breathe fire, I thought to myself, shaking my head. I ran into the bathroom, applied some quick mascara and foundation to cover up the ghoulish black under-eyes that I always had. Finally, I brushed my teeth and was done. I sighed as I walked back into my room to check my phone. No response yet. Maybe I panicked for no reason.

My phone vibrated with another message from Todoroki. Butterflies began to swirl inside my stomach as I wondered why he wanted to grab coffee with me today, with the sports festival tomorrow.

I'm out front.

I slid my phone into my hoodie pocket, grabbed my house keys, and began to leave.

"Where are you going?" I heard my uncle's shrill voice echo through the house.

"I'm going out with Todoroki," I yelled back.

"Make sure you're home early. The sports festival is tomorrow," he reiterated. I had no idea which room he was in, but I heard his voice perfectly.
