It was around midday when I finally dragged myself out of bed. The house was quiet, much to my delight. I had bought instant coffee yesterday to solve the 'lack of coffee in the Todoroki household' issue. I unscrewed the lid of the coffee jar but couldn't find any mugs. I searched high and low, mostly low.
The sound of footsteps approaching jolted me awake. I braced myself for interaction, but when Shoto walked into the kitchen, I sighed in relief.
"Oh, it's just you."
"Sorry to disappoint," he said in his usual monotone, leaning over the kitchen bench, his eyes locking onto mine. "What are you doing?"
"I'm looking for coffee cups," I admitted absently, continuing my search.
"They're in the top cabinet above you," he informed me.
"Of course they are," I muttered under my breath. Standing on my tiptoes, my fingertips barely grazed the deep chestnut handle. "Seriously, are you people giants?" I glowered.
"Do you need me to get it for you?" he offered with a cheeky grin. I shot him a glare, narrowing my dark eyes.
"Are you insinuating that I'm vertically challenged?" I asked coyly. Shoto stood up and walked over, standing beside me. He simply looked down at me, amused by my struggle.
"You're not even that short," he smirked slightly, his eyes skimming down towards my legs and then back up to my eyes. I averted my gaze to the towering cabinet just out of my reach, feeling defeated. A sigh escaped my lips.
"Fine, can you help me?" I asked, irritation seeping into my tone.
"What did you just say?" he quipped with a half-smile, folding his arms across his chest.
"You heard me."
"No, I don't think I did."
My face burned with humiliation. "I said, can you just help me?"
"The great Amara Aizawa, asking for help?" Shoto hummed before he reached up and pulled out a coffee cup. "Of course, I'd help you." He placed the cold ceramic cup on the bench, and I took it from him.
"Thank you," I sighed.
"You know, I put them up there last night so that you wouldn't be able to reach them yourself," he confessed. I felt a dark eyebrow twitch in irritation but forced a smile anyway.
"Delightful," I said sarcastically. Shoto chuckled beside me as he watched me prepare the rest of my instant coffee.
Our moment was interrupted by a knock on the front door. Shoto disappeared towards the door to see who it was. Much to my annoyance, I couldn't enjoy my caffeine in peace. My perfect hearing picked up strange voices calling my name. I couldn't help but amble towards the voices, peeking around the corner to see Shoto standing in front of two police officers. My heart began to race as panicked thoughts trampled my mind.
"Amara," Shoto called out. Within seconds, I made my way towards the door and eyed the two policemen. "They want to see you."
Me?
"We need to ask you a few questions about the time you were kidnapped," one of the officers said flatly. I took a sip of the coffee in my hands, pressing my fingers to my forehead.
"Okay," I said flatly.
"Please come with us," they said in unison, stepping aside. I hastily swallowed the remaining hot liquid and set the cup on the floor.
"I'm coming as well," Shoto interjected sternly. The officers didn't seem to care as they patiently waited for us to get into their police car.
The drive to the police station was silent, and I couldn't help but chew my fingernails. What did they want with me? Routine questioning, perhaps.
