Nerves ate away at my confidence as I made my way back to the rectangle concrete arena in the stadium. The crowd cheered loudly, their voices vibrating around me in a crescendo of torment. The noise scrambled my thoughts, making it hard to focus. I needed to work on getting used to loud noises. My heart raced as I laid my dark eyes on a certain blond with fiery red eyes. He entered the arena silently, his face stoic and emotionless. He knitted his eyebrows together as he locked eyes with me. I couldn't read him; he wasn't giving any indication of what he might be thinking or feeling.
"HERE WE HAVE THE DRAGON AMARA AIZAWA FROM CLASS 1-A UP AGAINST KATSUKI BAKUGO IN THE SEMI-FINALS! THIS SHOULD BE AN INTENSE MATCH!" Present Mic's words only resulted in a throbbing pain within my temples. A sigh escaped my lips as I wondered how long I'd last before getting a migraine from all the noise.
"BEGIN!"
I had always wondered what explosions would feel like, and it was time to find out. Bakugo appeared to be waiting patiently for me to make the first move, his hands buried in his pockets. I let my electricity flicker along my right arm, small blue sparks of light dancing around my pale skin as I concentrated on sending a controlled shot. I sent a small blast of bluish-white electricity at him, but he easily evaded it, using his explosions to increase his speed as he side-stepped away.
In the blink of an eye, he flew in front of me, landing a punch on my face before I had a chance to harden. My hands immediately moved to hold my aching jaw as anger began to boil deep within me. I felt my eyes turn into slits as I sent him a death glare. I saw a glimmer of fright in his eyes, causing me to flinch. I took a deep breath, trying to ignore my anger.
He kept his distance, waiting for another chance to attack. I prepared to shoot another blast of electricity at him, this time aiming straight at him. He evaded it effortlessly again, so I shot another bolt of blue electricity with my other arm. I began to pant as exhaustion set in.
No, I can keep going, I thought angrily, gritting my teeth. Bakugo launched himself with another flurry of explosions, but this time I was ready. I ducked under him and turned to face him, only to receive a kick to the face. I smelled the familiar scent of blood before I felt it trickle down. He was better than I thought. I smirked, wiping the deep red blood off with my thumb. He kept his distance again, his fiery eyes locked onto me.
I bent my knees and placed my hands on the concrete ground, channeling large amounts of electrical energy. Sparks crackled around me in a circle, thunder roared from the sky, and lightning flashed, attracting dark clouds. Power surged through my veins to the tips of my fingers. I rose slowly, holding in the energy. The sun disappeared behind the angry storm I had attracted, darkening the stadium.
No, no, no, you can't kill him, I reminded myself. I needed to hold back.
I heard his muscles contract before he began to run toward me. I unleashed the electrical energy, sending large bolts of electricity in a cone in front of me. He jumped over the attack, emerging unscathed. I pulled the essence of power from the storm, calling down lightning strikes. Thunder and lightning whipped the ground, leaving burn marks on the concrete.
It baffled me how this guy managed to evade all of my attacks. I was really panting now, almost dizzy from using my quirk so much. Bakugo gave me no time to prepare for another attack, blasting toward me and kneeing me in the stomach before I could harden. He sent a right hook toward me, but I ducked under it. I hastily hardened my skin, grabbed his shirt collar with one arm, and threw him, hoping he would fall out of the arena.
He used his explosions to stay inside the rectangle and flew back at me. My eyes widened as I realized I was running out of energy. Switching elements took a lot of effort, and I had been using all of them all day. I unhardened my skin and decided to shoot a cone of frost to trap him. The pale ice shattered as black smoke began to surround the arena, smoke that Bakugo had created from his explosions. This was a new weakness I didn't know I had; turns out my energy is limited after all.
He appeared before me and sent another punch to my blood-stained face. "Why are you holding back!?" he screamed. I collapsed onto the ground, clutching my face. He towered over me and kicked my stomach. "Stop holding back! I know you are stronger than this!" His words were so loud they made my head throb. The pain of his attacks burned as my breathing hitched. I bit my bottom lip and shakily tried to get back up. He kicked me back down, and I hit the back of my head hard on the concrete. I scrunched up my face, sensing his anger growing stronger.
"I'm sorry," I whispered.
"Do you think I'm so weak that you need to hold back?" he yelled. With my remaining strength, I kicked myself up and stood straight.
"You don't understand," I sighed, my consciousness wavering.
I clenched my fists, rose them above my head, and brought them down hard on the concrete ground. It sent a ripple of force, carving up the arena and sending Bakugo into the air. He landed on his back, yelling out in pain. A thick layer of dust and dirt obscured my vision, but I could hear him. He hadn't moved yet. I crawled through the debris towards him, finding his body and stealthily inching closer. Before he could react, I stomped my boot onto his neck. He immediately grabbed my ankle, trying to explode me away, but his attacks didn't faze me. I began to charge an orb of electricity to stun him. I created a small electrical ball of energy in my palm and attempted to make it bigger, but my electricity disappeared. My vision became spotty, and a wave of nausea washed over me. I released my boot from his neck as my body became numb. I felt myself go blind as my eyes rolled into the back of my head and I lost consciousness.
Author's Note:
Hola, I made this chapter short! Very short! I didn't want to bore people with a drawn out fight. Amara has discovered that she has another weakness it seems, Her quirk is hard to control and it takes a lot of concentration to change elements, as she can't use more than one at a single time. It ALSO took a lot of concentration and energy as she didn't want the electricity to KILL HIM, only stun him. So that also took a lot of energy out of her, poor gal.
The noise from the audience also threw her off her A game, if that wasn't already obvious.
As strong as she is, I didn't want to entirely make her OP as that didn't feel fun. After all she is still 15 and still has room to improve her quirk.. I have so many plans for this story! Gah I am so excited!
See yall in the next one!
