Glass shatters from the pressure inside the building. Her mouth drops open. Eyes burning with hot tears that spill over onto her clothes, she collapses into the street. The villain catches up to her with a grin. His snickering the only the she hears besides the roaring flames. He places a hand on her shoulder, forcing his full weight on her.
"Disappointing isn't it? I love the despair in your eyes." He shoves her to the ground talking about how this is enough pain for him to be satisfied.
He takes off down the road, catching up with some other villains. He looks her in the eye one last time before waking off.
Hagakure's world feels as though it's on fire. What is she to do now? This was the plan. There wasn't a second one in case this one failed. They should have known the villains would burn down the police station. Were there still some officers around? A hero wouldn't be the most helpful. They'd be as good with their quirks as she was.
The adrenaline starts to wear off. Pain from her wounds sets acting as a replacement. She's sore and tired. Her clothes are blood soaked and sweaty. Her brain is exhausted. She knows she needs to keep going but to her there's no use. The best she can do is wait for the switch to be over. Her chances of saving her friends could heighten by then. But the villains would have their original powers back. The heroes would have theirs too though. Would the stakes be equal? It might, at the very least, be somewhat even.
The thought starts to leave her brain as she starts to think about how far away tomorrow is. How many people have already died since it started? Would t stop by 12:00am or continue until a certain hour in the morning. Her brain racks around their lesson from earlier in the morning but it's the late afternoon and so much has already happened. Information is starting leak from her memory like water.
Standing isn't the best idea but what else is she supposed to do? Being in the middle of the road isn't optimal either. A villain could easily take her out without any hesitation. She stands, her frame wobbly.
Was everyone already dead? Did she fail?
These are the thoughts that are racing through her head. Hagakure takes two steps forward before collapsing back onto the pavement. It's no use. Her energy is gone. So much was risked for her to save everyone. Todoroki throwing her across first. Mina sacrificing herself to a nomu to get her to safety. It would all be in vain. Her legs won't move.
She closes her eyes for a second, ready to give in, to give up, but a voice calls out to her.
A hand wraps around her shoulder pulling her up. She knows by that touch that it's Mina.
"We're not giving up that easily. They're a bunch of heroes on the east side of the city near the fire station." She supports Hagakure telling her she got the information from an injured villain. Could it have been the same one Hagakure ran into earlier.
There's blood trickling down her face. It accentuates her nonexistent features. The invisibility was slowly becoming more normal to them. She wipes it away and is smudges across her face. The fight with that none must have been rough.
The two girls take it slow and steady keeping their mind on the end goal. One foot in front of the other. They're in the North part of town currently. The official East side isn't for a few more blocks. All of the cars around are either destroyed or locked and it wouldn't be the best example to steal a civilian's car anyway. On the occasion, a villain will come into their view but they'll be quick to hide in one of the shops.
They're not the smartest villains the girls have seen. These ones seem more hell bent on fighting than chasing. Even if they are seen the villains lose interest once they've lost the trail.
After what feels like hours of walking but what must have only been minutes, the two can see the fire station in the distance.
Ok 😳 700 words. Woah. This chapter was easy to write. Think I'm getting my edge back. My goal is to finish the story before the summer ends or right when school starts for me. So they'll be about 5-6 more updates.
