Y/N was sitting at her computer, finishing up a chapter, when she heard a pained whine from the bedroom Jimin was sleeping in. She pushed her chair back quickly and hurried into the room. Jimin was moving around restlessly in his sleep, his face contorted in discomfort. She sat by his bedside, running her fingers through his hair. At the feel of her hands on him, Jimin's face relaxed and he turned toward her in his sleep as though he was seeking her comfort. Y/N stayed by him, gently stroking his hair. Although he was sleeping peacefully again, Y/N could see that when she moved her hand away, he would shift as though trying to find her again.
A short while later, Hoseok arrived with the pills, along with another bag. "How's our patient doing?" Hoseok asked, giving her a quick hug.
"He's okay. He's asleep right now, but he woke up a little bit ago. He ate some stew and drank some water," Y/N explained. "I helped him to the bathroom too."
Hoseok nodded in approval. "That's good. It means there's no real damage to his core or his legs. Probably more bruised than anything else," Hoseok said. He had worked with hybrids for the last few years and anytime he saw an abused one, it caused his heart to break a little more. It was one of the main reasons he had become a doctor for hybrids. He couldn't change the laws to protect them, but he could help the ones that came into the shelter.
"I'm glad Jimin ate," Y/N said. "He's really skinny for his height. I hope he'll put a few pounds on soon."
Hoseok smiled. "I'm guessing you haven't eaten anything yet, have you?" he asked, holding up the other bag.
Y/N shrugged. "I was too worried about Jimin, but then I started working and just... forgot," she replied, the excuse sounding weak even to her ears.
Hoseok rolled his eyes at the explanation. "Well I brought you a sandwich and soup from Jin's cafe. You'll see why it's my favorite," he said excitedly. Hoseok opened the bag and brought out sandwiches and soup for both of them.
Y/N brought them each a drink and they settled down at the island with their lunch, talking quietly. They had just finished when a whimper came from the bedroom. Y/N jumped up. "Sorry, Hobi. I have to check on Jimin," she said, her voice apologetic.
Hoseok stood up and waved off her apology. "It's okay. I have to get back to the shelter anyways. We're doing a C-section on a leopard hybrid," he explained.
Y/N raised her eyebrows in confusion. "I thought hybrids couldn't get pregnant," she said, the uncertainty thick in her voice.
Hoseok laughed at her expression, but then shook his head. "That is just one of the many misconceptions about hybrids. They can most definitely get pregnant and a hybrid can get a human pregnant," he corrected.
Y/N laughed with him. "I've got a lot to learn," she replied, thinking about how much she didn't know about hybrids.
Hoseok slung an arm around her shoulders in a quick hug. "That's what I'm here for," he reassured, his tone gently teasing her.
Y/N heard another whimper from the bedroom and turned in that direction. "Thanks again, Hobi," she said as he let himself out, closing the door behind him.
Y/N made her way back to the bedroom. Jimin had his eyes open and was watching Y/N come back into the room. "Hey, you're awake," she said. "How do you feel?"
Jimin shrugged. "A little better, I guess," he replied, his voice not as pain filled as it was earlier.
"Do you think you can sit up a bit and take some medication? It's an antibiotic so your wounds don't get infected," Y/N asked.
