The second his name fell off of Y/N's lips in a sputtered gasp, Jake's body fell to the floor with a loud thud. She continued to stare in disbelieve as the body shook and contorted, a black mist of some sort surrounding the corpse that it appeared to grow out of. However, it eventually morphed into a figure, something she couldn't exactly make out until she saw the horns resting atop of the figure's head. It soon developed into the demon she knew and loves, who had finally maintained his final form and stood over Jake's deceased body.

Now, she could see the face of her past lover. Twisted in an expression of anger towards his brother who was currently rising to his feet, a perplexed expression on his face.

"How did you undermine my spell, Ethan?" Grayson asked, balling his fists tightly as he glares at his twin. "You know what—never mind that. You shouldn't go against me, brother. You know you and I together are well powerful, we can conquer anything."

"I don't want to conquer shit unless it's destroying you," Ethan growls, shoving his twin harshly into the wall—so much so that it created a large dent and the pieces shattered to the floor. "Don't you lay a fucking finger on my girl again or you'll be sorry."

My girl.

Those words shouldn't make Y/N's heartbeat skip a beat and reminisce over their romantic times together—especially at a time like this. She should be screaming and running, but instead she's gawking at her demonic ex and feels the strong urge to run into his arms and never let him go. Should she hate herself for that? She shouldn't want him in the way that she wants him anymore, especially after everything he has done to her and for her. But again, no matter how hard she has tried to run away from him, he always seems to be coming right back. And perhaps that's a sign that she shouldn't fight these feelings anymore.

"Your girl?" Grayson scoffs, dusting off the pieces of drywall that lingered on his shirt. "You mean, the girl whose parents you killed?"

Y/N's head snapped towards him. Maybe it was too soon to rethink those feelings...

"No, I didn't!" Ethan bellowed frantically. "I would never do such a thing. It was Lucifer, and yes I should have stopped him but control do I have over the supreme ruler of Hell? I was confined to the house, until I managed to break out, dealing with extreme anguish of my beloved running away from me."

"You sound ridiculous, brother!" the younger twin snaps, squeezing his hands into fists. "I don't understand how you're possibly choosing some mortal over me! Remember our times together when we were alive, Ethan? Or shall I say, The Seeker? Come on, you cannot betray me like this."

"That mortal is my soulmate, Grayson. The love of my immortality, a fate that I cannot escape from." Ethan grits his teeth as he takes a step closer to him. "You betrayed me first by attempting to hurt my precious girl. For constantly deceiving her. For laying your fucking hands all over her, you piece of shit. That if grounds for deadly consequences."

"Are you saying you're going to kill me, Ethan?"

"Precisely," the demon utters. "Unless you're willing to walk away and allow Y/N to return home and be free—and you leave us alone for all of eternity."

Grayson smirks annoyingly. "You know I cannot do that, brother. She makes you weak."

"No, she doesn't—as a matter of fact, she makes me the strongest that I have ever been," Ethan sighs. "So I guess it is a fight to the death, brother."

"I guess it is, then."

The two brothers stared at each other in complete silence. Then, Ethan glanced over at a shaken Y/N, who had absolutely no idea what to do or think about anything. "Angel, you might want to leave the room for this."

"Yes, I'm certain you do not want to witness your dear beloved demon being violently murdered," Grayson cackled in mockery.

Y/N doesn't really have to think twice about turning on her feet and hightailing it to the other room, in which not even a few seconds later she hears glass shattering and fists colliding. She enters her bedroom and locks the door, falling to her feet in tears as the twins scream and shout in the living room. She's frightened, but not for what you may think. She's not scared for her own life anymore—she's accepted that fact that she's constantly going to be walking on a thin line for the remainder of her years, or days, even. No, she's scared about another life that she shouldn't be scared about.

Ethan might actually die.

She's tired of her mind being so conflicted—he's made many mistakes and has terrified her to her very core, something that a lover shouldn't do. But he is a demon after all, and it is in his nature to do impulsive and aggressive acts. She could still feel in her very heart that he had never meant to harm her. Everything he has ever done was to protect her—I mean, look at him now. He possessed some poor soul's body just to be here and save her life from his own evil twin brother. She could still tell that he loves her more than anything, and perhaps that instills the very same emotion inside of her.

So yes, she still loves Ethan.

Y/N hides underneath her bed for a while, as the loud and overbearing clashes of the demonic bodies collide. But soon, all the violent noises come to an end, which terrifies her even more. The silence means that the fight is over, and that somebody won—while the other is presumably dead.

She's unsure of what to do until she hears the sounds of footsteps approach her bedroom. Her entire body is trembling; this could very well be Grayson coming to lay down upon her demise. Maybe even mock his own brother's death, who had failed to defeat him. Then he will violently end her life as he had initially planned. This was it, the footsteps were getting closer and it was time to face the truth...

The door that she had thought she locked is pushed open. More footsteps. Y/N squeezes her eyes shut, tears rolling down her cheeks relentlessly. She cannot hold back the gasp when a pair of strong hands grab her shoulders and pulls her from underneath her bed. The grip is released from her, and the room is filled with silence other than her sobs and whatever demon's heavy and exhausted breathing. She's too petrified to open her eyes; if this was Grayson, she hopes he would stop cruelly taunting her and get it over with in his plans to kill her.

But suddenly, she feels a pair of hands grasp her face and wipe away the tears staining her cheeks.

"Don't cry, angel."
