Chapter 12

When I wake up after passing out I’m lying on a bed.  I don’t know who’s it would be, because the sheets smell fresh and they are perfectly flat.  Well, except for me laying on them.  I look around and everything is perfect, with no stains or garbage or dents in the wall.  And everything around me, well most everything, is black.  Am I dead?  No, I can't be.

Oh.  I suddenly realize.  It’s my new apartment, I think, hence why everything looks so perfect, for now.  I soon feel burning almost everywhere on my joints and through my muscles, and suddenly remember how I got here in the first place.  Uriah must have carried me here.  Christina probably told him where my new apartment was last night at their "date".

“Uriah!”  I yell.  I know he's still out there because I hear a loud what sounds like a TV blasting through my apartment.

As soon as I yell that he comes running into my bedroom with a worried look plastered on his face.

“What’s wrong Tris?”  He say panicking.  He walks in and sits on the edge of the bed.

I just shake my head and mutter, “Nothing.”

He lets out a sigh of relief.  “Do you like your new apartment, Tris?”  He asks me grinning.  "Your speaker system and flat screen HD TV is awesome, I might need to steal that one day."

I laugh and shake my head slightly, then just respond, "Get your own."

I suddenly remember the blurred images of David and me fighting, and… Four, while squeezing back a few tears.

I then look down at my hands and see they are wrapped up in white tape, messily, but sturdy-looking.  “You did this yourself, huh?” I ask him, smiling ever-so-slightly, and teasing him.

He makes a proud face and says, “ Yes I did.  Doctor Uriah, at your service.”

I laugh at him.  I then, from my uncomfortable slouching, attempt to slide up onto my butt.  I succeed, but I earn stabs of pain and groans in the process.  At least after a few seconds into the process Uriah realized what I was doing and helped me up into my present upright position.  Him helping didn't eliminate all the pain, but at least it helped a little.

“Thanks,” I groan through my clenched teeth to keep from screaming.  I wonder how long I was actually punching David.  My muscles, cuts, and scrapes make it feel like it was hours.

I then look down at myself, expecting to see bloodied and gross workout clothes still plastered onto me from my fight, but instead I just see a standard pair of black Dauntless pants and a shirt.  I gasp silently.  Uriah must have changed me when I was sleeping.

I instantly burst into viscous tears, not really knowing why.  I put my hands up to my face to cover it, no matter how much pain and burning goes through my elbows.  I don't want to make Uriah think it was his fault.  I think of my fear that might have caused it, but also something else.

“Tris, I-I’m sorry, I just-“  He stutters.  He must know what I was thinking.  I look up and he’s adverting his gaze from mine.

I shake my head.  “It’s not that, Uriah,” I say softly.  Although I might still have that fear, and I’m embarrassed that he saw me naked, or at least close to it, he’s my friend, and he meant nothing of it other than to help me, which I am grateful for.

“It’s just,-“ I release another sob.  “I just wish that it would have been-," I pause. " Tobias.”  I choke out the last word.  I soon realize that I don’t know if Uriah knows his real name, but I don’t care.  Four doesn’t know it either now.  Besides, I wouldn't want Four stripping me naked and changing me.  I don't think he would even want to.  I want Tobias to do it for me.
