Set to "Beyond Endurance" ; Confessor's Prayer

Part 1~ Unmerited, yet Thou hast promised

I cry to You because I need help
I long to see the place Your glory dwells
Let the light strip away my self-glory dreams
And put to shame my self-sustained fantasies

O Lord, in mercy, bring Your fire
To purge from me all strongholds and roots
Lest I with proud-willed desire
Be like those whom Your commandments forsook

Wilt Thou not answer
And forbid me have my own way?
Or wilt Thou let me wander
And Your struggling servant forsake?

I declare my vanity and my weakness
O convict me of Thy strength!
Break the chains, shatter the cages
Your fire in me, in mercy, awake!

For I have quenched that fire
And killed that desire
In jealousy for Your glory
What monster of my vanity!

O Lord, do You not know?
In pride I have fallen so low
But not in humility to mend
I need Thy awakening and revelation to cleanse

Purge the dross from the silver
Grant that I might be used by You
This man, like grass, will wither
Yet everlasting shall be Your truth

I have not lost my life for Your sake
But have sought my world & soul to save
Instead of relishing and desiring others to relish
In You who alone are worthy
I have taken Your grace and my own worship embellish
Bringing just wrath to my vanity

But Lord, as just is Your judgment
And my sinful mouth calls for blows
Do not send a destroying punishment
And conceal the way in which I should go

Do not make me inherit and eat of my own fruits
In mercy, sanctify me (what I feel) by Your truth
Annul my covenant with death; the debt to pay
In forgiveness, do not give me over to my own ways

O Lord, I confess my folly
My sinful desire for Your glory
I have been a rebellious cloud that Your light shines through
Craving the wonder of men while I strive to blot out You

I have not sought that they should seek You
But have desired that they should desire me
All this and more, You Lord have seen and knew
O in mercy chastise and purge that I may be free

Freed from the seeds I have accepted
The foreign covenants I've embraced
In my weakness, may Your strength be perfected
May Your name alone be magnified by Your grace

May You increase while I decrease
Let Your understanding be my salvation
O Father, I do not deserve even the least
But by Thy unfailing promise, I seek for Transformation

Here I stand in the filthy rags of my own righteousness
My self-proclaimed sufficient glory
I cannot wash nor save, neither heal nor bless
You alone can preserve man to walk uprightly

Convict with Light and Fire
Redeem my sinful desires
In mercy do not let me harden but convict
That all that I am and seemingly gained
To Your glory, submit

"I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear
But now my eye sees You
Therefore I abhor myself
And repent in dust and ashes"

I strip myself naked and bare
I long to wear Your righteousness once again
To be delivered from pride's lair
To point and proclaim alone Thy goodness to the end

O Father, I confess
Your chastisement will bless
But if Thou wilt let me harden
Then I have not been pardoned
O magnify Your name!
And do not give me over to my own ways!
