When Fear Besieges

The Flesh within and the World without
Push back with buffeting wings
So I place my refuge in my Father's house
The Lord will take care of me

Their voices carry songs of fear
Showing how little I grasp or understand
Yet my Father is always near
I surrender into His hand

"I am unworthy for Your protection
Or for Your hand to guide
Yet You have given the cup of salvation
And revealed these chains of pride

I wilt in the purifying fires of Your test
And faithful to redeem, You've proved
As far as the east is from the west
So my confessed sins have been removed"

Their songs of fear move in their calling
Upon my heart to trust in what I understand
Yet I rest in the One who will keep me from falling
He will satisfy me with His hand

Many times I feel alone
And truth to be my mind's eye
Yet time and His Word have shown
That God alone is wise

So as the Enemy play their compositions
Weaving their dark lies of bitterness
I will cover my head with salvation
And cling to what He has promised

My mortal eyes cannot pierce the veil
Or see the other side of His tapestry
Yet the Father has written my life's tale
And His plan is perfect in everything

Our Father who is known is greater
Than the future that is unknown to me
Certain is the faithfulness of the Maker
Making void the Present's uncertainty

"O God, like the winds of a hurricane
The pride pulls and I almost lose my grasp
O drive the fog away and make it plain
For I feel I will not long last

You assured that none could withstand
To separate me from You
Is it You who grasp me with Your hand
Who will shield me from my doom?

Cleanse and empty me by Your blood
Rooting out my sin (Selah)
So I am not cowered by the flood
For You, Father, dwell within"

The city of my heart the Enemy assails
My very walls they breach and scale
Yet I am no lone warrior who stands
For the God of mercy shall prevail

Wherever I'm led and wherever I trod
I will go in the strength of the Lord God
"To You alone I look to and pray
For Your hand is not shortened that it can't save"

Yes, my own works shall not stand
The weapons of my own trust will bend
So I have cast these down that I might grasp
The weapons of God that never fail to last

By God's Spirit, I break the cords of pride
And I bind about me His belt of truth
Once emptied, I am now full and alive!
And more are with me than with you, O my Enemy!

With my head anointed with His salvation
His righteousness is my protection
I walk in the Father's peace and ways
And grasp in both hands His Word and my faith

"I have cried out to You that I may be emptied
That I might be filled and indwelt by You
To surrender to You, die to self and be buried
That in Your faithful mercy, I would bear much fruit"

'O enemy, destructions are finished forever!
And you have destroyed cities
Even their memory has perished
But the Lord shall endure forever

He has prepared His throne for judgment
He shall judge the world in righteousness
He shall administer judgment
For the peoples in uprightness

The Lord also will be a refuge for the oppressed
A refuge in times of trouble
And those who know Your name will put their trust in You
For You, Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You'
"This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord
And their righteousness is from Me," says the Lord
