Chapter Thirty-seven: The Plan

As soon as he released his hand, Natalie blurted out,
"Albus Potter!"
My mouth dropped open.
"Potter? Like- as in-"
"Harry Potter. Yeah." he said in a rather defeated tone. "That's dad."
"Oh, okay," I said lightly. I could imagine how that felt, being constantly in your famous father's shadow, knowing that no matter what good you do, you'll probably never live up to your dad.
We walked to the library in silence. On a brainwave, I drew my notebook from my bag and looked though the prophecy again.
"the boy in the tall shadow..." I read quietly, so quietly it was but a murmur.
I rounded the corner before the others and ran right into someone very solid.
"Oof!"
He turned around slowly, a strangely blank but still murderous look on his face. Albus and Natalie appeared a second later.
"Trimble," Albus said cooly. The boy didn't respond. Two- no, three others seemed to appear out of the shadows, their pale faces glowing like moons. And when I say pale, I don't mean naturally pale skin- I mean, like, all the blood is gone from their face pale. Like, dead pale.
Needless to say, it was bordering on downright frightening.
"Mitchell- Whitworth- LaCrosse- lovely seeing you four here tonight."
The boy he had addressed as Mitchell growled. I backed away slowly.
"We-do-not-consider-it-lovely," droned LaCrosse, who seemed to be the leader. "We-find-it-an-annoyance!"
The others nodded in agreement.
"And-what-do-we-do-with-annoyances?"
"Bake them a cake?" I tried a stab at humor.
"Silence-them."
They all raised their wands, in unison. I felt myself drawing my wand, adopting a battle stance with Natalie and Albus, but it was too late...
"Stupefy!" cried a voice. A jet of red light shot from behind and Whitworth keeled over. "Stupefy!" Trimble fell.
The distraction was enough to give us the upper hand- now it was two to three- or four- anyway. "Petrificus Totalus!" Albus called and LaCrosse fell like a board. "Stupefy!" Natalie said experimentally, but nothing happened.
"Exp-"
"Stupefy!" Albus yelled before Mitchell could finish his spell.
"Let's go!" I whispered feverishly. A duel in the hall could not be good.
We took off at a trot, and Ari fell into stride next to us.
"You're welcome," he huffed.
"Thanks," I replied.
We reached the library, finally, and all four of us settled into chairs around a desk. I scanned the prophecy and clapped happily.
"Ah! You guys must be the ones! Okay!"
I took a deep breath and looked at Natalie for encouragement.
"There's been a prophecy, and you three- and I- are part of it. Basically, it says we're going to be saving the school from- something terrible, which I've figured out. I'm going to need you guys to help."
Albus looked excited and Ari tentative.
"What's the terrible thing?"
"It's an enemy of mine- an old, old enemy. A wicked monster created to terrorize everything in the universe."
Albus' look of delight had quickly turned to skepticism.
"The Daleks!"
Natalie gasped for effect.
"Hang on. That's from that show, isn't it?" said Albus, his eyes slits. "You're saying a TV show alien is terrorizing the school?"
"Basically," Natalie said wryly.
"Uh, no. Right. Very believable. I'm just... Going to leave. Good luck with your big mission."
And with a short, Albus stood up and left.
"He'll be back," I said with less confidence than I had. "Let's get down to business."
"Um." Ari said quietly. "It's not entirely the MOST believable story I've ever heard. Or, you know, even close to that."
"Who is this guy?" asked Natalie.
"Natalie, Arie-" he silenced me wih a stare. "Ahem. Ari. Ari, Natalie."
"Anyway, everything fits the Daleks- their... trademark color is blue, like Jasper's eyes and the Blue Phoenix. They have a habit of kidnapping people- and! They make puppets out of them after they... That must have been what those boys were! I picked up some funny life-form readings on my device a few days ago, but I sort of dismissed those because, you know, magic school, but they fit the Daleks. And the prophecy specifies some things that make it pretty clear- it's the Daleks. Okay." I said feverishly. "We need a plan."
"Hold on. Shouldn't we wait a bit? Tell someone?" Ari asked with caution. "This might be really dangerous."
"Relax, I have a prophecy. No one's going to die. And I'd like to preferably prevent my friend from getting puppet-ized. So."
I leapt from my seat and trotted off to find Hogwarts, A History. The book had one of the most complete maps of the school, and it helped that students had been continually updating the map in the thirty-year-old book, scratching in new rooms with their quills. If my suspicions were correct...
I ran my finger along the map of the dungeons, comparing it to a mental image of the grounds. Structurally it made sense... And-ah...
"You're just sitting there muttering to yourself," Natalie finally commented.
"Shh. Helps me think."
"Who's Jasper?" Ari piped.
"The kid who tried to kill that one boy at the Quiddich match. By the way, how is he?"
"Should be back on his feet by next Wednesday. Do you know him?" Natalie responded, her Gryffindor social info coming in handy. For once.
"Not personally."
"Oh."
We say in silence for another few minutes, then I stood sharply.
"Come on. Go! Go!" I called loudly, cheering the two of them on, still holding a crumpled paper ball. Madam Pince shot me a murderous glare as we ran out of the library.

A/N: there might be some plot holes because since chapter Thirty-two I've been skipping around to write... :)
