After the bomb of having a young sister and a living aunt had been dropped, Maya could say that things had been on the up for her life. For her friends, for her pregnancy and her little family, for her brother - She couldn't complain. Maya sat in the nursery, a children's book in her hand as she rocked back and forth in a rocking chair. Maya was two weeks into her second trimester and the gender of her bay was known, only to her brother, however. Pregnancy got real, real fast. Her sister would be spending the weekend over and they'd be heading to the beach to do sisterly things. At the buzz of her phone, Maya checked the group chat with Jasmyn and Reign.
familia 🤍✨
J. 👯♀️: Y'all will never believe who just asked me to collaborate with them!!
R. 🐝: If it isn't Beyoncé, could you spare the text at 7:30 in the morning?
M. 🦋: The both of y'all are annoying and not in a good way. Who tho?
J. 👯♀️: CHRIS FUCKING BROWN.
R. 🐝: I'm glad that him and Rihanna are good, otherwise the Navy was gone drag you. 🤣
J. 👯♀️: Fuck you Reign.
Maya was laughing in her rocking chair before she stood, placing the children's book on the book stand. Even though Jasmyn had been out of the loop for a few days, she accepted Lani immediately.
"You mean to tell me that Kamari is Miss Mae's half-sister? Kamari Johnson, you know she's a retired model, right?" Jasmyn said on FaceTime in her office at her house. She was typing at her Macbook, grabbing the camera to turn it around and show Maya.
"Wow, I guess she lived out her dream even after Mom died," She said while driving to the grocery store. The phone had been propped up on the dashboard for safety purposes. She was craving peanuts and cheese, but the phone call was tolerating her cravings.
"Beautiful chocolate woman. Girl, Lani is a spitting image of you, as well. These pictures you sent me," Maya looked to the phone just as Jasmyn had put her on PAUSED. "I mean. She's a walking you, the twists and everything." Maya smiled at the thought of Lani. She had just dropped her off for school earlier that morning since she begged to stay a school night.
Maya broke out from her thoughts as the doorbell rang, moving down the stairs with her hand on her little stomach before pulling open the door. "Hey sissy!" Lani said, a weekend bag on her shoulder as she stepped in the house. The two exchanged hugs before Lani went to the kitchen, groaning until she chugged a water bottle. "Do you know how hot it is outside? It makes no sense for this July weather to be tearing me up like it is!" Lani said, tossing her bag on the floor.
Maya was proud that in a one month time, Lani had gotten more and more comfortable. School was about to be out for her and the plans she made for them for the summer alone showed that. "Girl, I've been in the nursery all day because it's the coolest in the house," Maya said, bringing a cake out the fridge. She was putting on a few more pounds, but it's nothing that she couldn't work off.
Right?
"Where's Sage?" Lani said, sitting on a bar stool as she grabbed a bag of chips from the snack bowl. Lani was already on her phone, crunching on her chips. "He's out with his brother, how's Kamari?" Maya responded before sitting on the bar stool next to her. She was busy at her phone too, but being social media free allowed her to stay off it more.
"She's good, she's dating again. I guess seeing Sajaír made her get her chocolate want on or something," Lani said, the two of them laughing before they noticed someone had come in.
"Heyyyyyyy," Cree said, removing his sunglasses before running to hug Maya. He had given Lani a hug too, shaking her shoulders before Reign stalked in with the suitcase. "We got too many outfits planned for your miss thing thing," Cree said to Maya with a smile.
