Soojin!
I caught myself calling out her name, my voice rising just enough to cover the distance between us. She was pretty far away, but I wanted to make sure she heard me.
She glanced in my direction—just for a second—but then quickly looked away like she didn’t know me. It wasn’t the first time she’d done that. Honestly, I’m starting to get used to it.
Her name is Soojin. She’s the girl I like. She’s a year older than me, but I’ve never really cared about that. Feelings don’t exactly ask for permission, do they? I like her—plain and simple.
And yeah, she’s beautiful. Everyone sees that. But what really pulls me in is her presence—her quiet strength, the way she carries herself. That’s what really gets me.
I’m Yeh Shuhua. I’m Taiwanese. And I’m so into her. Who wouldn’t be? She had it all—cool, sexy, impossible not to notice. People adored her.
I used to wonder how other students could walk right up to her like it was nothing—handing her flowers, letters, little gifts. She'd smile, thank them, even if it was just politely. But whenever it was me trying to offer her something, she’d always say no. Like clockwork. And yeah, it stung. It really hurt my pride.
I ran after her, still calling her name, my breath catching in my throat. Finally, she stopped and turned to face me with that same unreadable, serious expression she always wore.
"What do you want, Shu?" she asked, her tone sharp, clearly annoyed.
I swallowed hard, trying not to let it show that I was still panting a little. "I just wanted to ask... if maybe we could go to the next class together?"
She didn’t answer. Didn’t even look at me. Just turned around and started walking away again like I hadn’t said anything.
I let out a quiet sigh—half frustration, half relief. At least she didn’t outright reject me this time. And honestly, it’s fine. I’ve got patience. Lots of it. I mean, you kind of need it when your long-time crush treats you like this on a regular basis.
She can be mean—cold, even—but no matter how hard I try, I just can't seem to get mad at her. Tsk. Pathetic, right?
“Jin-ah, wait!” I called out again, just loud enough to make her stop.
She turned around, visibly annoyed this time, her brows furrowed like she was already regretting not ignoring me.
Thinking fast, I clutched my chest and pretended to be out of breath, doubling over slightly for effect. Her expression shifted in an instant—from irritated to worried—as she rushed over to me.
“Shu, are you okay?” she asked, her voice softer now, full of concern. She gently placed a hand on my shoulder, trying to comfort me.
“Do you want to go to the clinic?” she added, her face drawn close to mine, eyes searching me for signs of distress.
But I wasn’t focused on her words. All I could think about was how close she was—so close I could feel her breath on my skin. My heart wasn’t racing because of the fake panting anymore. I was actually starting to panic… because our faces were just inches apart.
Oh God! what should I do?
I kept my expression calm as I told her, “I’m fine, really. No need to worry.”
