Anything Can Happen (5SOS)

Chapter 13

:) Meliny's POV :) 

It's the day after Christmas. Sophie came over this morning and we exchanged gifts. Now we are baking cookies in the kitchen. She still isn't the same. I feel bad because I can't do anything. It's not my problem to fix. It's hers. 

The cookies are in the oven, Reign is on (greatest tv show), and my phone is flipping out. I run over and grab it. The text that appeared on my screen was a big uh-oh. Sophie is cleaning the kitchen so she hasn't noticed my tiny freak out.

"Hey I'll be right back. I gotta call a family member." I heard a faint ok as I ran for my room.

I dialed Ashton and he picked up on the first ring.

"What do you mean you are coming over?" I question before he can say anything.

"Well hello to you too, and I mean we are coming over. Why? Is there a problem?" He asked worried. 

"Ummmm... well if Sophie being in the same room as Luke is a problem then YES! We have a problem Ashton!" I whisper yelled at him. 

"Shit! I didn't know she was there! Well Michael and Calum are really excited to see you and we can't turn around now." His voice got quieter as he came to an end.

"What do you mean you can't turn around?" I felt that I already knew the answer to that question.

Just as he was about to respond my doorbell rang. I glared at my front door and hung up on Ashton. I slowly walked to the door and unlocked the door. The door busted open and I was tackled by Michael and Calum. Ashton was laughing in the back ground. The blush on my face was evident and I couldn't help but smile at Michael and Calum. No matter how much I was freaking out on the inside about what was about to go down, they still made me happy. 

"Hey guys.. come on in." I ushered Michael and Calum into the living room. Luke came in staring at the ground like it was the most interesting thing in the world. As soon as Ashton was in the door I grabbed his arm and dragged him to my room and slammed the door. 

"Why didn't you tell me you guys were coming?" I was happy to see them but I was pissed about whats gonna happen. 

"We wanted it to be a surprise?" Ashton smiled like a kid who got caught with his hand in the cookie jar. 

"Yeah, it's gonna be a surprise alright." I grabbed him and we walked back out to the living room where the guys were all lounging. Michael looked up at me and winked. 

"Are you baking cookies?" Calum excitedly bounced on the couch. 

"Yeah. Sop..." I was cut off as Michael and Calum raced for the kitchen. I sighed and shook my head. 

"Mel!" I heard Sophie yell and I looked over at Luke who looked towards the kitchen so fast I thought he would break his neck. 

"She's here." I heard him whisper as he went to get off the couch, but Ashton grabbed his arm and held him back. 

"I'm coming!" I yelled back and slowly walked into the kitchen. I was surprised to see her trying not to laugh at Michael and Calum who were trying to eat the cookies as fast as they could. She looked up and saw my worried expression. Her smile immediately dropped. 

"He's here isn't he?" She was so quiet I almost missed her question. I slowly nodded my head. She stood there frozen for a good twenty seconds before it registered in her mind. She took off her apron and ran to put her shoes on. She grabbed her bag and looked at me. 

"I'm sorry. I have to go. I can't be here right now." She quickly looked at Michael and Calum. She ran over and gave them a hug. "It was nice seeing you guys, and I'm sorry I have to leave so soon." They both nodded with their mouths full of cookies.

She had to go through the living room to get to the door and you could see the dread on her face. She slowly rounded the wall that split the living room and kitchen. She stopped when her eyes landed on Luke. He took a step toward her but sshe put a hand up to stop him. 

"Soph..." He whispered. 

"No.." She said just as quietly. You could see the tears threatening to fall when she looked at Ashton. "It was nice seeing you Ashton, but I really have to go." With that she ran out the door and left. 

Luke plopped down on the couch and put his head in his hands. He looked defeated. A single tear rolled down his cheek that he angrily wiped away. Ashton sat next to him and tried to talk to him but Luke wasn't responding. I sighed as I heard a pan fall in the kitchen. I walked over and couldn't hold in the laugh at what I saw. 

There was Michael and Calum covered in flour and eggs trying to make more cookies. The situation that just happened was depressing enough that these guys made it a little better. I was worried about Sophie but I knew she wanted to be alone. I had the boys all to myself today and I wasn't gonna let it be a completely saddening day. 

I walked over and grabbed the spatula out of Michael's hand and started making more cookie mix. 

"You guys can go stand over there," I pointed to the other side of the counter, " and make the icing for the sugar cookies." There faces lit up and they high-fived.

I was mixing the cookie mix when I felt hand wrap around my waist. I shivered at the sudden warmth. Calum's head rested on my head since I was much shorter than him. 

"What are you doing?" I shakily asked Calum without turning around.

"Watching you bake." He paused and lowered his head. I could feel his breath fan across my cheek. He whispered in my ear, "It's very attractive. Especially when you have chocolate on your face." His deep chuckle made my face heat up as I wiped my face trying to get the chocolate off. He chuckled even more and turned me around. "Still there." He chuckled again. "Here, let me."

He brought his hand up and swiped his thumb across my bottom lip making me shiver. He sucked the chocolate off his thumb.

"Mmmmm.. so sweet." He whispered. He licked his lips and my attention was brought to them. I looked between his eyes and lips a few times before I realized he was leaning in. My eyes were closing as he got closer.

"Calum! Dude come here! I made the icing the same color as my hair! It's awesome!" Michael laughed across the kitchen. We took a step back and Calum sighed. He walked over to Michael and they started making funny colors with the icing. I just stood there in shock. What the hell was that? I turned back around and zoned out as I made cookies. This was going to be a long day.
